Only 19% Hd Space Available

Hi,
I could use some expert advice on how to free-up some GB's on my HD.
Here's my situation...
>My HD capacity is 37.24 GB
>of which only 7.05 GB (19%) is free space
Now....fact is I have a K-Lite Video/Image Download Folder (with 69 sub-folders) that uses
18.5 GB. I've been deleting as many unwanted files/folders as I can. Those that I want to share are copied to a separate Shared folder.
I DO NOT at this time want to add a 2nd hardrive. I know you'll want to suggest this and this would of course be the best way to go but that's for a later date, I'm hoping for an alternative.
So, ruling out a 2nd HD can I get a sizeable quantity of GB OFF my computer HD? I have a CD-RW drive with CD-R's (700MB each) available.
This is where I need your help.
Can I:
1) Compress? and/or 2) WinZip? the KL folders to my CD's?
....what do you suggest? What do others do in a similar situation without adding a 2nd HD?
I've never compressed or WinZipped before (I have unzipped and use WinZip for new downloads but never Zipped before so, be specific with any instructions please. Windows XP Home).
If my math is correct, one (1) CD-R of 700MB is only .68 GB. I would need a method of compressing the files to use less space on the CD-R if there could be a practical way to do it.
My Vitals:
Dell Dimension 4400
Intel Pentium 4, 1600 MHz
256 MB system RAM
NTFS File System
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400
Windows XP Home v:5.1.2600 SP 1.0
Internet Explorer v:6.0 SP1.0
Thanks for any help and suggestions,
mrlessk :)

Get a new hard drive! :P
Failing that (please dont hit me) delete your temp files regularly, get a registry cleaner, and your shared files you dont use that often onto disk :)

get window washer by webroot, the first time i ran it i freed up about 1 gig, but ive been using it regularly since and only free up like 20mb :( oh well.
also burn mp3's to cds in mp3 format, image files arent very big so leave them. Video files burn to cd's in the format they are already in (except if they are bigger than 700mb compress them). Last is ur download games. If they are those kind that it is a rar and u unzip it and click a registry adding thingy then downlaod a program to make an installer for teh gfame then burn that to a cd and it will be like having the real game :). Also you should turn off the system restore service because it uses up a lot of space on the drive.
I think that covers all of the big files on the drive. Oh and uninstall games\programs that you dont need\use.
