sco is pretty much in big shit at the momment. it has proved nothing but still insists that it can charge a liscense of $699 for use of linux. it even named a rather large hosting company who payed up the fee.

apart from the fact that its now charging a huge amount for a small amount of code it is also charging for gnu code which invalidates the license.

that is why nmap recently added a clause to its license saying that sco cannot compile or include its source code in any of their products anymore.

Most companies dont want to go through the hassle of being sued.

If they hound enough of them with threats of litigation, most companies will settle just to SHUT SCO THE FUCK UP. :)

For users of Linux like us. They dont stand a chance.

people have been talking of sco suing google since it is a big linux user and they claim its is going to one of the top 1000 companies so might very well be.

still as somebody pointed out in that slashdot article sco will probably go after somebody with no way to defend themselves since they dont want any professional team of lawyers punching holes in their case.

here (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/03/01/1119202&mode=thread) is another article about SCO being told to put up or STFU in germany.

and the article (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/02/27/1317219&mode=thread) about nmap.

Edit : just found a really nice article on GROKLAW (http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20040301051959705) it is a very well informed look at the case and is well worth a read.

IT also claims that sco will be suing ev1servers.net as their linux user even though they just went out and bought a license to use sco code

SCO's first target: AutoZone

http://yro.slashdot.org/yro/04/03/03/1322244.shtml

That is so sad...

It also says that they will soon sue Daimler-Chrysler

It would be funny to see if there was linux code in UNIX!

lol the judge just ordered a put up or shut up order to sco.

they have no where to run know since they cant claim it is a trade secret since millions of people have downloaded the linux kernel source code.

source (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/03/04/0049203&mode=thread)

this is gonna be the showdown hopefully :)

edit: that gives sco 45 days to produce their evidence aprils 1st sounds like a good date to me. still IBM has to produce code as well.
