Does Anybody Use Maya?

Well, I was given Maya 4.5 Unlimited for Christmas a couple years ago, and am just scratching the surface on how to use it. So far, I got a ball to bounce :D.
Well, I've kinda have trouble with something. I don't know how to put text on! I've had this for a couple years, and still don't know how to put text on. I've gone to create text, and the words are "Maya" I can't change it! So I was wondering if anybody who uses this program knows how to change or create text. Or at least knows a website that tells. Well Thanks!
