well, the refurb 9500 i bought a new egg a couple months ago went kaboom and im in search of a new card. although the 9500 was nice, i dont think i need a card that good as i played cs and morrowind w/ it ;) .
i already looked at bigdawg guides......he grew up so fast.... :cry1: , i remember the good ol' days where he didnt knwo that much.....anyways, that guide didnt really tell me a lot (no offense) , so  , the 5200 is really starting to look good right now....cheap, plays cs and morrowwind, and....uh....cheap.

that sucks...what did u do to it? anyway, i guess the 5200 would be fine for you, or the 9200. make sure not to get the 256mb of those cards, and also dont get the 5200XT or the 9200SE, they are the crap versions of those cards...
Posted by: bigdawgfoxx
I would get the 9200 just cuz its an ATI lol. And with my guide its just to show which cards are better..if the 9200 is better then the 5200 for the same price, go with the 9200.

i dunno, overheat i guess...i started seeing artifact and than a couple hours later....KABOOM (like when bomb blow up in cs)
but the 9200 is not dx9....not that the 5200 can handle any dx9 features, at least it will have support for it so i can play on low setting lol

well the 5200 does add a few features to games which u cant get with other non directx9 cards.
for example, i tried out that 5200 on my computer on the weekend with nfsunderground and i was able to have headlights on the car etc.
just little details get added with direct x 9. and the performance was around the same as my mx440.
but not only direct x 9 u also get nvidias awsome drivers :) .i hate ati's drivers, nvidias look betetr and are easier to find stuff in and get used too.

HEY! The mx440 isnt that bad. It plays halo on full settings at 1024*768, at a very good frame rate...and i can play need for speed on it at 640*480 with highest settings i can get, or 1024*768 at medium settings, and both run at an average of 28fps which is pretty good.
Although I doubt it will be able to get such good results with HL2  but ill try...
Posted by: Mr. Elmo
i have a mx440 and it struggles playing halo at med setting on 800x600....w/ aa and af off.
you should see it on morrowind  ...but it only has 64mb so that might be why
so the 5200 is a ok choice than....or should i get a mx440 since its a lot cheaper....oh wait, i heard the new splintercell dont support mx440

Don't get an mx440, get AT THE VERY LEAST a 5200.
The reason why the mx440 isnt supported by splinter cell is most likely becuase it doesn't support direct x 9, but the 5200 does so it should be fine..
Oh and why did u ask if u should buy a mx440 if u already have one?

How does an mx440 play halo on full settings? mine plays batlefield kinda wierd...
Posted by: Mr. Elmo
because the one i have is for my older comp...duh...lol :P and its a 64mb one

Well no wonder halo is slow, if its an old computer ;) .
@Bigdawg, maybe mine is like a supercharged mx440 lol, i can play both games on full...maybe because yours is PCI??
Edit: Plus my card is OC'd quite a bit...but i also have AA and AF on their heightest settings (AA:4x AF:2x lol)

yea, that sux that it died on you. i also have a 9500 pro, and thankfully mine hasnt done that yet. now that i read your post, i think ill go ahead and get a GPU cooler, cuz i have always felt that this card was under cooled, specially since i OC my comp. :P

rossco.....u play halo on max settign , w/ 2x aa and af? are u sure u have a mx440? my old system is old , but not that old....1.8 celeron, 512 mb ram but like bigdawg says, it play bf1942 weird...its skippy, and sometime there is artifact...and its not a heating issue cuz the heatsink was not hot at all.

Seems very strange if you have Halo 1024x768 full settings and some AA and AF. Even really high end cards struggle on Halo, which is strange since its a 3 year old Xbox game. I haven't played with the newer patches though, so megh.
EDIT: Try go for an FX5700 if possible. Froogle Search for FX 5700 (Froogle = Google's price searcher) (http://www.google.com/froogle?as_q=fx+5700&num=100&scoring=p&btnG=Search+Froogle&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&price=between&price1=&price2=&as_occt=any&cat=0&filter=1&tiled=0&safe=active)

whhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa have i been away taht long that there is a 5500 now? are u sure its only 50 though? let me do some shopping but im sure its higher since the 5200 alone is 65....the 64 bit one is a bit higher than 50.
EDIT: atividia....YOU LIAR lol....all the 5500 are $100 and its all 256mb (which i dont need, since im pretty sure the card wont take advantage of that much memory) once again, YOU LIAR

lol i guess microcenter doubled their prices
edit: lol ur a liar too i found the lowest (non-negotiated) price to be $70 (http://www.directdial.com/us/shop/item/prod.asp?item=GV%2DN52128D)!
not my fault that i negotiated with microcenter to slice 30 off one of their cards for me!

I have a MX440 and i can play Halo Full but with none of that AA AF one, 1024*768. The card is good and cheap, but i wouldn't buy another one and i wouldn't reccomend it. Because it doesn't support Pixal Shading 2.0 and only 1.4 it will not play newwer games (Splinter Cell PT, Prince Of Persia 2 etc etc)
i would go for a 9600, there about £70 in enlgish, not sure about US though.
