Hi a friend of mine has a video tape that I would like to be able to put onto dvd for him (it's a home movie so nothing dodgy here) allowing him to have a more durable copy that he can possibly copy for family members etc.

so I wondered is this possible? If so how easy is it? and what will the quality be like? Oh and what would I need (I have a graphics card with a tv out and a dvd writer :) )

any guidence would be much appreciated :)

thank you ;)

should be pretty easy m8..

you'll only need a "capture card" ,anything with "video in" like some graphic cards(ati most common).Connect with a standard video lead, scart, svhs.

Hi ck-uk thanks :)

I have a radeon9600pro which I think has one of them. Is it pretty easy to hook up and do you know what kinda package/program I would need?

Your ATi card's most likely going to have an S-VHS input. Depending upon whether you are in possession of an S-VHS VCR, you could simply buy an S-Video cable. Otherwise, a SCART or A/V -> S-VHS ought to suffice.

EDIT: As for Video Capture software, something by Pinnacle ought to do.

Thanks Amarjit :)

the capture card handles the video signal, but for sound you'll need somehting like this:

called a Y-adaptor, or a 3.5mm-to-rca adaptor...

plug the 3.5mm end into the line-in on your soundcard, and the red and white sound leads from your vcr plug into teh other two ends on the adaptor.
