is it possible to play starcraft without the cd, just copy it into your computer?

You would still have to copy the the huge setup.exe file to your HD and you can't play on Battle.net.
Just make a image of the cd and use something like Daemon Tools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/portal.php) to mount it to a "cd-rom" drive.
