wow what a stressful depressing film!
However it was one of the most beautifully shot peices of artwork I have ever had the privilage to see
Unfortunately I fell asleep before the end......... anyone know what happened?

and if you liked the style of Requiem for a Dream then definetly Watch SPUN (not as great but groovy similar camera warps theme)

Yep, watch the end... definetely the best part of the film.
Also watch Lilja 4-ever if you "enjoyed" requiem for a dream. It focus on the increasing problem with "trafficing", and sets you in the same mood as requiem for a dream.

The heaviest movie I've ever seen on drug addiction. For sure.
Makes Traffic look like a kiddie movie.

True, but it's a breath of fresh air from the mainstream "good guys always win" theme. Donnie Darko is another depressing, mind trip of a movie that sure wont leave you feeling warm and fuzzy.

If anyone plans to purchase this film, just be aware that many of the DVD versions are the edited version. You'll want to look for the Director's Cut.

If Donny Darko was too weird for you, I'd not recommend the Fountain.
I suppose it has its finer points, like the visuals, but really, it's messy storytelling.

i used to do alot of meth and found requiem for a dream to be very disturbing. the cinematography in the film is amazing but i found the movie a little lacking in story. i love the flickering effect they used for the girl in the last few minutes of the movie....like a broken light bulb. when i look back at the years i was using the shit really heavily i get that same feeling from memories-flickering, not so sharp.
spun is entertaining but not as....insightful??....as requiem is. the movie does draw similar parallels but ultimately focus' on the lifestyle built around using meth.
on the other hand...requiem for a dream is much more intent on giving a glimpse into 4 addicts whose lives have gone terribly wrong. it is not so much about the drugs or the lifestlye or druggies...its about addiction of any sort
