@Chow22 - You make sure you send over the main XBMC folder. Has to be the one that contains "default.xbe" and some 20 other files/folders. If that folder is inside a folder, it will not load when the xbox does.
@Arden 05 - Error 21 doesnt have any real meaning. But in this case it is probably due to the main .xbe files being corrupt or not being signed right.
There have been a few posts that show how to fix it in this thread. This guide is step by step, as I have done it a million times before and know it like the back of my hand. Using this mod, you do not need to FTP to finish the mod and play burned games.
I have read about SlaYer's boot disc v2.6 fixes the problem, you can give that a go. Here (http://slayers.marauderer.net/SlaYers_EvoX_Auto-Installer_v2.6FINAL.exe) is the link for it. Pass is sevx2.6

Thanks for the reply SingaBoiy I almost lost it last night, but today is a new day and I feel much better. Ok with that said I have questions....
1) After a successful install and then error 21, how would Slayers installer V2.6 fix the .xbe problem because I think that's one of my problems. Meaning do I pop in the disk after a successful install? Where does the installer come in? Do I burn this Installer on to a dvd (its 158mb, I know it can't fit on my memory card, using AR). So please could you help me out on that (Thaks for providing the link as well :) )
2) What's the point of FTP? I just want to play burnt games and watch dvds without the device thats it. Should I buy a crossover cable? ( I work at Circuit City so I could pick one up). But In my case if FTP is not needed, I don't want it.
3) From my XBOX specs could you tell me the exact path to take (Meaning UDE or UDE2 -> then PBL 1.4.1 or PBL meetoo or - > etc.... (I believe I'm running version 1.0)

Thank you for the help SingaBoiy. It is weird though when I copy over or create new folders for instance nothing shows up on the evox dashboard though if I switch to the mmx dashboard I can see them. I tried switch my ftp to non pasv mode which did not help. What am I doing wrong.

1. SlaYer's will rebuild any corrupt files in the C:\. This is supposed to fix the error 21. After extracting, you will have a 300+ MB ISO to burn. I suggest using a cd-rw cause you have better odds of it working then a cd-r.
2. To play dvds (w/o the dvd play back kit) you will need to FTP in to transfer Xbox Media Center. I am not aware if SlaYer's has XBMC on it. I do know it has dvd2xbox though. So you could burn XBMC to a disc and use dvd2xbox to copy it to your xbox.
3. I suggest using UDE2 > Metoo > M8
@Chow - Make is so all the files for XBMC are in this folder:
E/Apps/XBMC/ <-- all files in there

All the files are in the folder. XBMC runs great in the MMX dashboard but not in the evox dashboard. I would prefer to use the MMX dashboard though. Do I Need to edit the evox.ini file?

If you dont have lots of music, you have roughly 4 GB of space on your xbox hd. You can fit 1 or 2 games on it. More if they are small.

And I restored my hardrive to original form after I failed using the AR, and AUF method. So if I do get this to work, is that ok that I started from scratch and went straight to slayers installer v2.6 boot cd/dvd?

Well so I tried throwing the files on the C drive and nothing worked. I tried adding them into my evox.ini file with no avail so I guess I will just use the mmx dashboard. The problem I am having now is I can not connect to xbox live. When I coldboot I get the error that the xbox can not dchp server I believe. I then used Itools to unistall the ude2 and I still got the same errors with out the dashboard on. What do I need to do to be able to play Halo 2.....I need to feed my addiction!

I got some cd-r 's to work (Maxwell, Fuji Film....all disks with a blue toned bottom. I get it to play audio....but then I try to boot Slayers Evox installer and it won't load it ;) It's not responding to it....I don't know why :huh: any suggestions?

Has anybody had problems not being able to connect to xbox live. When I run the troubleshooting it says that it can not find the dhcp server.
[EDIT] Stupid non softmod question here. I got the x box live to work after the unistall. Thanks again Signaboiy for the great post.

So why won't the soft modding work? Is there anyway to get around my Thompson dvd drive? And what's your opinion on the spider chip (solderless) mod chip? Like I said I just want to play burn't games and watch dvd's so this should do the trick...right? Although I am getting this mod chip (it will be here tomorrow) is it even necessary to use Slayers installer v2.6 with it? :unsure:

Qwix? What is that?
Qwix is a very simple to use XBOX Remote File Management and ISO Creation Tool. That's a pretty complicated description, so let me try again. Qwix lets you do a variety of tasks VERY easily, and right from your PC. Have a bunch of ISO's sitting on your PC that you need to load onto your XBOX? Open up Qwix and use the ISO batch upload tool. Just tell it where your ISOs are, and where you want them to be on the XBOX, and then let it fire. It will automagically extract the ISO's out into properly named folders in your games directory. It pulls the game name from the ISO, and even let's you change it if that isn't what you want it to be called in the games menu.
Ok, that's fine and all, but what else can it do? Well, along that same path, it also creates ISOs for you. You select a game from your XBOX that you want to create an ISO from, and tell it where to save on your PC. You can even choose to crosslink files, which means that it will take common areas of the game and "cross" them so that they don't have to appear multiple times. That saves valuable diskspace, and can change a DVDR game into a CDR game!
Beyond that? Well, if you are also using Avalaunch, then you need to go into your avalaunch.xml and make sure that BOOST mode is enabled, because you are gonna love that. When combined with Avalaunch, Qwix has the ability to upload ISO's to your xbox at speeds much faster than you could achieve with a normal FTP client. Give it a try, compare it, and watch Qwix get the files there 3 times faster!
To sum it up, Qwix is the easiest way to FTP ur .iso files to ur Xbox. :01:

SingaBoiy I finally got it to work!!! :w00t: But now that I'm at the EVOX menu (Blue menu, with the launch dvd and launch game etc.) What do I do now? I'm at the Mountain top....so what happens next? I tried to backup a game but it didn't work. I tried to play a dvd but it didn't work( put in dvd then went to launch dvd and it brought me to the "you need the xbox dvd remote" to use screen).
Does Evox have to be configured in order to use?
What's the use of the Backup feature in the System Utilities menu? Can I back up games directly?

In terms of configuring the ftp connection to xbox...On the first page of the thread is your FTP tutorial...Seems very easy but the part when "clicking start and My network connections confuses me. Because when I click start I don't see that option on the Panel. (I have windows XP, if that matters...and a wireless connection, so my ethernet port isn't being used but is functional) Can you be more specific with the FTP setup....thanx

1. EvoX only needs to be configured to FTP.
2. Backup is to make a backup of your settings and what not.
3. To play dvds, you need either Xbox Media Center or Xbox Media Player. You can use SlaYer's to install it if you can FTP.
4. Yep, you can played burned games now. To backup "purchased" games, you need to FTP to your xbox and copy the contents of D:\ Then use Qwix to make an ISO and burn it.
5. Then go to My Computer and look over on the left in Other Places. It should have My Network Places.

SingaBoiy I'm having trouble FTP-ing :( I can't establish the connection to the Xbox. I followed your FTP tutorial but no connection. What should I do now? This is the last step...my computer isn't acting right. I'm not using the NIC card to connect to the internet so does that mean my NIC card is dormant? There is an exclamation point near on the networking symbol. So what should I do now?

I need it to burn the games I ftp'd out of the xbox. I only saved a couple of games on the Xbox HD because I'll eventually run out of space so I need to back the games up on dvd. Any tips on this? Is there anything I have to look out for or do to burn the games correctly? Singa as of today everything was going great but now I'm experienceing a problem with the softmod. When I play a game from either the HDD of the Xbox or a backup game, it plays for awhile then resets by itself. What does this mean? Should I reinstall the entire softmod? Let me know....
Edited: Singa I think its an IGR. It does this when I hold the L and R triggers down and and point L and R analog sticks to the right (all at the same time). How do I disable this? IGR is not "on" in the system Utilities Menu of Evox, so what do I do?

Go to System Utils then settings. Turn off In Game Reset. FTP to your xbox and delete everything in the X, Y, and Z drives. Then go to the CACHE folder in the D:\ and delete everything in it.

Yeah delete whats in Z, the only thing vidle are in the c and e. Reset and test it out, and tell us if it works.

Did you get to install the xploit, or does it show the error 21 screen when you load the save?
If it just does the eror 21 after yot installed the xplout and when you start up. Just start the 007 games again and try the xploit.
If it wont let you install the xploit, will work that out if it does.

Ok he said he selected evox as his dashboard and during install the error 21 screen came up. Now every boot up with 007 game in tray or out of tray the error comes up. Can’t get to the MS dash or Evox. Any other suggestions?

Would it be possible to do the mechinstaller linux and put a linux distribution onto the dashboard, while your installer is there? or possibly, put linux on first, then use your installer?

jmo9669, Have your friend boot the xbox by using the eject switch that should bring up the menu again and allow him to sort it (if I'm thinking of the same mod package anyways.)
An Error 21 refers to the problems with the dashboard (wrong version, files missing etc.) but its strange that he cant boot from a game, as the MS bios bypasses loading the dash if a xbox disc is in the drive. Does the Xbox boot with any other games?
Just out of interest, does he know what version xbox, dash and kernel he has?

1.) I have a problem with my soft-mod xbox, i done all the soft-mod and the Evo X screen shows when the Xbox turns on. But there are some games that will not work when i FTP it over to the Xbox, like for example Halo 2 and Ghost Recon 2. They will load up to the title screen and when you press start it will not proceed. These 2 aren't the only 2 games, there are some more too. Please help!

This is really nobbish so here goes. I have a cat 5e crossover cable connected to my xbox and computer. I already setted up my network. Everytime i try to connect to it. It says "aquiring network address" Then after that it says "the connection has limited or no connectivity" It won't work with the ftp. Can someone help!!

Hey, first of all just wanted to tell SingaBoiy that this thread has been a great help to me thus far.
I've gotten as far as getting into my xbox via ftp, and have just splurged for a hard drive.
My problem is I just started looking over the procedure, as well as others at xbox-scene, and all of them seem to require that you hook up the hard drives directly to the IDE cables in your computer in order to format them (etc.) I was wondering how I can do this since I only have a laptop? I was going to buy an enclosure, but I don't think I can boot straight off of USB. Does anyone know of any tutorials out there or else know what I should do to install the HD given my situation?

i finally did this mod today it works great.took me a bit to figuire out that i needed xbmc to play dvd's and a little bit to get the ftp set up.for those of you using a hub to set up you r ftp if you cant seem to get it to connect with static ip set to yes just set it to no and save and then reboot the xbox and let it auto detect.as soon as i did this my connection set up almost on its own.so do this and when you choose an ip for setting the ftp just type in the 1 that the hub gives you automatically.
"edit" almost forgot to thank you for the great work on the tutorial but i do have one question that maybe someone can answer.do i need a modchip to install the SlaYers_EvoX_Auto-Installer_v2.6FINAL or can you perform this install with just the softmod.i wanted to be able to rip directly from the xbox dvd drive instead of going thru the hastle of burning iso onto pc then ftp to xbox.

i burned the dvd with alcohol120% and burned the cd with nero.
"edit" never mind i think i got it.it was the XBMC in my E folder that was messing up the disk not allowing it to become a boot disk.burning disk right now with all my Apps except XBMC.will let you know if it works.

Great tutorial..But I have a problem. I can ftp just fine and browse all the folders on xbox but when i put a game in the ftp connection disconnects and I can't access the folder to copy game files to computer hd. Has anyone ever had this problem?

Anyway my question is this, my friend has a chip-modded xbox and I don't. Is it possible to take out his HDD ghost it to another and then put it in my xbox?

first your xbox would need to be modded,softmod or chipped.
next i dont think you can because your friends hdd has their eprom on it
you would be better off to just ftp from 1 xbox to the other.

Great tutorial..But I have a problem. I can ftp just fine and browse all the folders on xbox but when i put a game in the ftp connection disconnects and I can't access the folder to copy game files to computer hd. Has anyone ever had this problem?

turn off the auto launch dvd and games
then you should be able to browse the d/ folder

if i were you i would softmod your xbox it is very simple to do and really only takes about 5 minutes and your done

How big is the eeprom.bin supposed to be? I had backup_linux files when i modded my xbox, and when i try to do backup again it doesnt overwrite, and when i deleted the files in backup_linux and tried backing up, nothing appeared. So i dont wanna ruin my new hd if the eeprom bin is currupted or something, the size of my eeprom.bin was 256

Hello, I installed the UDE2, M8, and Evox everything is working good
Two Issuses I have are
1.) When I load Enter the Matrix I hear auido but no video show up and then I think it locks up. I tried playing around with the differnet settings for NTSC.
Anyone know how to fix this no sure if i use a differnt bios load if that would help. I also cleared all my cache this did not help anything.
2.) When you hit the reboot button it reboots but then it hang on the Xbox Splash Screen

Same thing happened to me, I just waited a while (after the lights started blinking green) and shut it off. It should work. My xbox is brand new to (1.6).

The reason you need the original Agent Under Fire game (meaning the non-platinum version), is because the original game has a loophole in it. This loophole lets you install the new dashboard.
After you copy the game save (from first post) on to your Xbox hard drive, you load that save using the Agent Under Fire game. If all goes well, a ltools menu should show up. Then, you can install the new bios.
Hope this helped. The reason I didn't answer the PAL xbox questions is because mine is NTSC.

This is my first post on this forum and I want to take the time to say thanks for all the help through the last 6 months! I have been using this thread for a long time. And I have modded over 45+ boxes. THANK YOU!
Now on to my problem. Last night I started soft modding a BRAND NEW xbox. It is a NTSC box. It was manufactured in feb. The mod went fine I believe, I couldn't tell because I lost video for the first time ever while installing EVOX. Anyways I turned it on and I have the EVO running just fine. I went to install a 120GB HD that was compatable! I started ftping all the neccasary files like normal ( i have done this plenty of times). As I got to the backup_linux folder with c.tar.gz zip file it froze at 95% while transfering. The xbox complete freezes everytime I do it? I have reinstalled the xbox 6 times and the same thing. EDIT---I also have other softmodded xbox laying around. Can I just use one of them to upgrade the HD in the new xbox? Or with the bios files be different?

I wrote a post and no one really replied to it so I was just wondering if some one could give me a heads up On if I can soft mod a v1.6 xbox and how big of a hard drive I could install in it. K I cant get on XBL, I followed a tut but used Splinter Cell.
I can FTP to my xbox. I can mod the Maps.
BUT I cant get on Xbox Live can someone help.
I do have a secret account that don't matter if it gets banned, and yes i used a crap box because it loads the downloaded maps and not the ones on the disc. Yes I have Read All the Post and Replies but I just get More Confused.

Stick in a new game that has xbox live enabled. It should ask for you to update, select yes then go back and softmod.
I found it does this on the oldest version of the xbox, says its missing files. Update it and everything will be good :)

Using this tut:
You don't necessarily need anything from #xbins, but softmodding would be pretty useless (in my opinion). You can get different apps such as XBMC (Xbox Media Center), emulators, game backup apps, and other cool things.
I am pretty sure there are other softmod packs with apps combined, but this tutorial has just installs a new bios.

I'm really trying to follow in your footsteps guys, but I'm so stuck. I've been working at this for 2 weeks and really tried to follow the steps.
After finding this post by chance, I went and bought this xbox, 14 used games, 4 used controllers, a used xbox dvd player set, a new Action replay package, cd-rws for slayer's stuff,...and I'm just stuck...slayer's ISO after I burn it with nero doesn't work...I've tried BenQ dvd+r, and philips CD-rw
Here's what I've done because I hit ERROR 21 right after pressing the A button on my xbox controller at the grey colored itools screen.
#1.downloaded the Agent underfire zip from the link at the first page of this post
#2.Used Qwix to extract the update.xbe from slayer's 2.6 iso.
#3.made the update.xbe.zip file...added this file to the "files" folder in the zip from #1
#4.moved the "updated" agent under fire.zip onto my Action replay card after deleting the x2-4981.gz, ude1-fonts, and ude1-patches.tgz files in order to fit it onto my empty action replay 8 mb card...it finally fit..
#5.the xmx "matrix-like" screen comes up and the grey "Itools" screen comes up...some rap music plays (maybe it's stored music on my xbox?) and as soon as I press the "A" button...the error 21 screen comes.
My xbox serial: 4208167 22702 ...supposedly, this means my xbox was made in the 27th week of 2002 in mexico.
the system info shows: Kernal: 4034 Dash:5960
I'm guessing this means v.1.0 xbox?
Anyone who can advise me please feel free. I will be very grateful.

I know this error 21 means nothing specific, but that my xbox system files could be incomplete or corrupted...I am the 2nd user of this xbox, so I don't know what the previous dude did with it. However, it plays retail games and movies just fine.

I have a GameShark Dongle plus a microsoft memory card, I cna't seem to get the zip file to drag into the AR software. I have all the zip files I need but nothing I seem to do will work. The AR software is not recognizing the card, I've used USB reader and settings are correct in the AR software for the dongle. The GameShark software recognizes the card is there any zip files for Mechassault that I can use the GameShark will acknowledge? I have SID3 and SID2.
Any suggestions?
I'm thinking of using the direct hardrive method.

i recently bought a bran new xbox too play halo 2 online, which i have done succesfully, i have since then however ran a soft mod on my xbox in order to play a few emus on it, the tutorial i used was the 007 saved game trick which stated that as long as i booted games directly (ie turning the console on with the game ready to play) i would beable to play online, however i can not, it doesnt say im banned, it just says troubleshooting, any help?

Your xbox is banned from live. I think its just your xbox, not your account. (I did the same thing but haven't checked, thank god I have two). You have to uninstall the softmod before you go on live. For the green with white that is all scrambled, thats okay. That happens to me (I have a 1.6 box too), you just have to wait until the lights blink green, then you shut off. The blinking green light on the xbox means it is okay to shut off. For getting the dashboard back, try softmodding again, then uninstalling it (again, wait for the lights to blink green). That might give you your dashboard again. But if your xbox is banned from xbox live you might as well just leave the softmod on.

connet both xbox thru an etherent cable not sure if you need crossover or patch cable. One start a game, and the other connect to it. Simple.

I just modded my Xbox today and I was wanting to make sure that 100% without a doubt that you can use Xbox live with the original copy of the game, because a guy at the local game store said that softmods can be caught on xbox live and they will ban you from live and fine you .. so is it safe if you have the original copy of the game .. i only use live for halo 2 and i own the game so i want to know .. thanks

Found out how, (and i meant on my xbox) but it said disc may be dirty or damaged, so i deleted the file, and clened my disc. now i am putting it on my computer again and when i wake up tomorrow i am going to put it back onto my xbox

Ok I already had the AR I went to Game Stop today and asked if they had Agent Under Fire they said yea and they had both platinum and reg. I buy the reg and they give me platinum....is there a wayto still soft mod my xbox even though I have the platinum version?

So I got a hold of slayer and extracted the update.xbe. I compressed it and copied it to the right place. I like others was not able to copy the newly zipped udata file to the 8mg card because it was to big. I tried removing some ude1 stuff and went with the ud2 install but when linux ran it was looking for files from ude1. I am going to try again with the UDE2 stuff removed and then see what I get.

It seems that when the linux kernel is done loading and inflating update.xbe any files regardless of if they are used or not are deemed missing and the installation aborts.
Is this the expected behavior??
This is pissing me off now, will going out and buying an official MS card get the job done. I would hate to spend more money and not have this work.

About a year ago I modded my xbox with evoX and everything worked fine.
I had about 4 games installed and thought it'd be better to get a 150GB harddrive.
So I used Xbox HD Maker and everything went fine.
After a while, and after I let a retarded and annoying kid play on my xbox, it wouldn't load the Microsoft Xbox Dashboard.
So the games I have put on after the problem dont work (because it wont autoload and launch because the original xbox files are messed up.)
I kept my old xbox hardrive, which is modded.
How should I fix the problem?
My Idea:
Should I...
Delete everything off the 150GB harddrive and FTP all the files from my old one to it, then reload all the games which I have backed up?
