What Does Everyone Think Of This New Idea?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

What do you guys think of a site that allows you to view streaming DIVX movies and listen to streaming MP3 songs without having to wait for downloading the file first?
Imagine, going to a site, choosing a movie, and it starts in a couple of seconds w/ no download?
My friend and i are thinking of doing that, where he'll host DIVX movies and MP3s from his computer.
Leave your opinion, thanks

Posted by: frenchdawg

i think that is a great idea. Imma goto the website www.dimi.fr.st and sign up now to get all the deals. :P

Posted by: johnboy

Well, the site isn't quite finished yet...
no movies are ready to host, and the site design isn't ready...I'll inform everyone when things are ready

There is the legal question as well as cost.

After all, if your doing it without the permission of the copyright holder and with out the license to pay the royalties, you'll still need to charge to cover your legal costs in court.

Or have you managed to find a server in one of those countries that dont believe in that sort of thing....paradise

Posted by: hello

- the bandwidth cost for that would be unbelievable
- copyrights etc..
- What do you mean w/o downloading? Do you mean reducing the quality of the movie so that it streams faster ? (something which i would hate) How is it possible to stream without downloading?

sorry if i am ruining your idea, but face the facts...

Posted by: johnboy

no downloading because it is going straight from his computer, not from an online host like Geocities... therefore, there is also no problem with bandwidth...
Oh, and how is someone going to hunt me down? I am one person in the internet out of millions! There is a site www.**************** who hosts movies in private servers, and they've been up for years.

Posted by: johnboy

My friend and I thought it was a bad idea for a variety of reasons.
He is going to continue with MP3 radio though
Thanks for the feedback though.

Posted by: the flinger

sorry man, thats a terrible idea (IMHO)

1) yes, you can stream, but you cant just do 2 secoonds buffer for a divx movie, it just dont work
2) no, you still have bandwidth problems becuase even if your friend has a private t1, it wouldnt go fast enough
3) legality is still a problem, you wouldnt believe these guys lately

sorry, but when it actually happens, i will retract my statements

Posted by: johnboy

flinger, no worries.
If you read the post before yours you'll see that my friend gave up on the idea of broadcasting DIVX movies.
He'll continue, however, with broadcasting MP3s

Posted by: rat face

i think it is a good idea because i need to listen to some music on the internet however is it free or does it cost something?
if it is free, i would like to sign up and start listening now because this is just a genious thing.

Ummm...I think that those things are already around...

Oh, yeah, they're called Television Stations and Radio Stations!

What, me listen to the things that you're playing or watch the things you're playing? Like I might want to when you're doing it?

Hey, this is why I have a computer. So I can do it when I want.

Posted by: selector

It sounds like an great idea. But what about the price for the server. It is not cheap
