The Ultimate Boot Disc (http://ubcd.sourceforge.net/) lets you boot to DOS from a cd. It also has a lot of extra diagnostic apps which you may find handy. :)

i am right in thinking rossco that the bootable disk is for when you need to boot up your pc to put a new o/s on it?

Well it's more that , but yes . You can test memory, install a hardrive , clone or wipe out a hardrive aswell ! Read the link from Rossco . :)
