HL2 Retail Burning

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: orcutt989

Alright well I have HL2, by Vengeance, and they claim that they have made their own installer that applies all patches and cracks that are required fixing the game. And they have convieniently divided the RARs into "CD's" or folders that say "CD1", "CD2", etc. However, the first few ISO's that I unrared, are 731 MBS. That is 31 MBS over any CD-R limit. How could I fit these ISO's onto a CD-R? I don think overburning would work here. And burning each ISO to a DVD seems like such a waste?

Posted by: TheDave

cd-rs go to 800 mb

edit: i think anyways.

i think if you write that to disc anyway it'll end up being about 650 mb and wont even fill the disc:unsure:

Posted by: orcutt989

Haha, what the hell brand are you using?

There is no brand of CD-R that has a 800mb capacity, unless you mean by overburning.

Posted by: TheDave

i got one in my hand thats 730, discplanet one

sorry i was wrong again.

i think the images are bigger on hdd than cd though

900MB CD-R

hold your horses. i'm unwrong

Posted by: orcutt989

http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/showthread.php?t=83823I know how to burn ISO's, but thanks anyways.

So what the hell am I supposed to do?

I have 700mb cd-r's. And I apologise about the MB mishap, although that is probably one of only a handful of brands. And the only way those CD's work is by overburning, which not all CD-Players/Writers support.

For high capacity CD-R (90 minutes & 99 minutes) recording, you should need CD-Recorder that must supports oversize
CD-Recording along-with writing software, which also must have over burn facility.
This guide explain how to proceed using AHEAD’s NERO BURNING ROM.
So it is not actually more than 700mb. And the previous cd-r's

Unbranded · Premium Grade "A" · 80min / 730mb (700mb data
Still 700mb.

Posted by: Formula1

Since an iso is IMAGE file you can burn more than 700 mb of it on a 700 mb cd-r since its an IMAGE file without overburn (eg. iso, bin, cue ) and i use nero. I was able to burn a 750 mb bin/cue file on a cd-r without overburn...

Posted by: S!X

just dl the DVD version on it, then burn it to dvd, im dling it right now:D

Posted by: orcutt989

Really? Could I do this with Alcohol 120%? Or should I get nero?

Posted by: S!X

burning iso's is best with nero.

Posted by: orcutt989

Alright, well I dont have the cash to buy any DVD's right now, I might get some for xmas, but right now I just want to back up this sweet-ass version of HL 2. So to burn the 731MB image to a 700MB disc I would use NERO? And I wouldnt need to overburn?

Posted by: spirex

This link explains why cd images are larger than blank cd's

Posted by: orcutt989

Alright, well can I use Sonic: RecordNow? I have used that to burn ISO's pretty well, I just burn as a DATA DISC and it burns the ISO's just as Alcohol 120% would. Would it work even though it says that the CD is 25mb over capacity?

Posted by: S!X

Id go with nero.

Posted by: orcutt989

Alright, can anyone PM a torrent link for NERO?

Nero is free?

Posted by: Tifosi

Nero is free?

<sarcasm>

No. I paid the makers of NERO 3 million pounds to pretend NERO was free just to trick you. It seems to have worked!

</sarcasm>

Oh, btw, been meaning to ask...what do you actually "manage", Mr Board Manager? The only thing I've seen you "manage" is to ask a few stupid questions :)

Posted by: orcutt989

:) I believe that the tags you used "<sarcasm></sarcasm>" cease to work!

And why did you send me a link for the NERO site?

Posted by: Tifosi

:) I believe that the tags you used "<sarcasm></sarcasm>" cease to work!

Indeed. We should have stayed on ipb imo :D

If you get nero from the nero site then visit the second link you'll see what i mean

Posted by: SuperScript

What do you mean? Doesn't a 731MB ISO mean 731MB of data burned to a disc?

I highly doubt it.

Posted by: S!X

Hey orc, is the VENGENCE rip any good? its almost done downloading.

Posted by: spirex

Nero is good for burning the cd image, but why don't you just use alcohol 120 to mount it and install from the hardrive. It would be alot quicker and you wouldn't use any cd's.

Nero is free?

free version doesnt come with all the features , and no offense but, do you know what suprnova.org is ?

i sthat a paradox?

What features does the free version lack?

IMO Bittorent is shit as a protocol, so I always steer clear of it...

What's the point of warezing something you can get from the actual developers?

Posted by: Formula1

No it isnt a paradox, i'm serious. Anyways you can find the latest/retail version of Nero burning rom at suprnova.org , and just about any/most retail version of a program on there.

Bittorrent may be a "shit" protocol, whatever that means, but it is getting to be
the most popular, if its not that allready. I read somewhere that torrents are
responsible of 1/3 of the traffic on the net. How did they measure I dont know...

If the free version of Nero lacks some features thats the reason to "warezing".
If there'sa naggin screen and/or 30day trial thats another reason for teh "warezing".

I dont know as i've downed the cracked versions with torrents a looong time.
So im just guessing here.
:D

I havent tried that free version. But how come the trialvserion ( http://www.nero.com/us/neroue-prog.php ) is a 10 mb download , and the retail is around 87 mb ? The reason to warez something rather than get a trial from the actual devlopers is usually because most developers leave out some of the good features, and of course it isnt free if you are looking for the whole thing . And I really don't unserstand the protocol issue of BT , but anyways BT works excellent for me. So my 2 cents :blushing:

Edit: Added-and of course it isnt free if you are looking for the whole thing from the developers, but it is on warez ;)

Why get it from Dev if you can get it cracked?

Responsible for 1/3 of the traffic because it's such an inefficient protocol. How much of the traffic is data to and from the trackers and not data to and from the users?

The second link i posted was a pseudo link to a serial. I'd rather use a serial than download a crack from suprnova knowing the troubles they've had in the past with security...

edit: been typing "date" too much recently

Posted by: Tifosi

Why get it from Dev if you can get it cracked?

Because it doesn't need cracked :)

Posted by: Afronaut

Because it doesn't need cracked :)

Maybe so. Im talking about content.
The packs from the Devs dont have the other goodies
what I like. In most cases i got "more" fromthe cracked than the fromDevs.

Actually, I got the Extras for the Nero, all I need is to update Nero itself,
which I think its not needed in every minor release. They're just updating
for more CD/DVD rom support and unsupport for someserials, perhaps.

And, I got me a legit 5.5 version which im a bout to install next time im
re-installing teh XP. I've heard ppl complaing their burned DVD fails with
some nero 6.xx programs. i want to see if the 5.5 works betteralso because my
dvd-rw has some difficulties also.

:D

Either way. We're both are right, right?
:P

The space-key on my keyboard is fux0rd...
Anyways, im off to see friends, we gonna smoke some Jazz tobacco etc. its friday ffs.

1 thing a bout nero. If one has a working serial for, say 6.3.
That same serial should work on the 6.33, or even later versions.

I dont see the real reasons to Update my Nero every week when they coe uo
with an update.

Couldn't you just mount the image with Daemon Tools instead? Saves having to burn anything

http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/download.php

Posted by: Formula1

yeah, i'd recommend daemon tools also , saves alot of cd's for me , and it's easy to use.

Damn right, get the add on which adds a mount to option in your explorer context menu and its one click :D

Hey orc, is the VENGENCE rip any good? its almost done downloading.:dry:I cant figure out how to install it. Can anyone explain how to install the Vengeance one? It says go to CD 5, and in the /Vengeance/ directory, there will be their installer, but when I double click, a CMD console flashes and then goes away. When I try to install with Disc 1, the installation is stuck at the "I agree to these terms.." window. It wont let me click "I agree..."

free version doesnt come with all the features , and no offense but, do you know what suprnova.org is ?
It is a Spaceship! Right?! Come to save all of us from JESUS!!!!
What the hell kind of question is that? Yes, it is one of my favorite places to download torrents for Games, Movies, Music, Apps, etc.

Posted by: Formula1

Yeah i was playing the vengeance version right now. It is a very perfect version of the game , the ai disabled error doesn't occur , and plus i can load my saved files from the original HL2 releases onto this one. So yes, it's Worth downloading

Posted by: orcutt989

How do you install it?

Posted by: Formula1

How do you install it?

Replying from PM:

After installing half life 2 retail , dont go an open up the halflifeinstall.exe YET. first off go to your desktop and start hl2 then you should see Steam open and update itsself. After that, completely exit out of Steam, go back and run the halflifeinstall.exe, in cd Cd5/crack folder , and execute it. I had a problem at first and then i did this and it worked.

Posted by: orcutt989

How long did you have to wait before my reported problem was fixed? IE (The "I accpet this agreement" wait...)

Posted by: Formula1

Just scroll all the way completely to the bottom , valve just did that to get people to read the agreement

Posted by: orcutt989

Thanks alot. I thought I did that, but I guess I didnt scroll ALL the way to the VERY bottom. Thanks a bunch, this looks good. I hope we dont get sued.

Posted by: Formula1

Lol, no problem.

You are so very wrong. There are 800mb avaiablabe, I believe there was some controversy about them not working in CD Players a bit ago.

Posted by: orcutt989

Read the rest of my posts, before trying to contradict what has been said.

Posted by: gildan2020

http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/showthread.php?t=83823
this thread did not explain why the ISO is more than 700mb
the ISO file is 731mb because the excess 31mb contains overhead (layman's term...rubbish)

now, if u use alcohol to burn it (it's also the same with nero)...u will soon realise that the real size is actually less than 700mb.

remember, u downloaded a commercial game released on cds. Each cd will not exceed 700mb and that is standard. in fact, i've never seen a cd that has a capacity of more than 700mb on any commercial games out there.

Posted by: orcutt989

Yeah you are right. Many hours ago I managed to burn the Vengeance CUE's onto CD's. They were only 638 mbs burned. Thanks for the help!
