half life 2 help

right i dont play half life 2 so dont know much about it but have a friend who needs help.
He doesnt have an internet connection but as I understand it still had to register online at a mates house for steam to play the game and download the rest of it.
He now wants to re-install windows but cant remember his steam account details (password) for when he has done this. How does he find this out? is it in the registry somewhere?

i looked through all that before posting on here. He doesnt have the internet. Does this mean the only way to find it out is by connecting to the internet?
also looking at the answer it seems as if the clientregistry.blob (is this really a file extension???) holds the password so if he simply backs this up before re-installing this should be enough?

Use the password recovery feature and get the password sent to him email address.

ya, what peerz said just get it sent to his registered email account. and yes, .blob is an actual file extension.
