laptop temperature

My Mum's just brought a laptop for herself, It's just for chatting on MSN and playing the odd "no frills" games. It's a 2.0Ghz Pentium 4 -M.
The only worry is that it seems to idle at around 55*c which I worry is maybe a little high?
I had a laptop Acer Aspire, Which used to idle in the 40's.
anyone know what's a safe temprature for them?

is the fan buzzing like mad? what make is it? (siemens....they get very hot)

Its a Acer Travelmate, My old Acer only reached 40's like I said.

Yep, After placing it on a flat surface I've got massive improvements it now idles at 25*c.
But my Hard Drive temp is reading 50*c during just normal internet use, do they normally get that hot it's only 40 gig.
I'm thinking it may be a dodgy sensor or something like that?

seems about right, mines sits about 60 under full load,
also the hdd doesnt have any active cooling as far as i know.,

Laptop's get rid of most of the heat through the base.
I remember reading about someone who received large second degree burns to their legs by putting their laptop on their lap. :blink: I'm pretty sure I'd have lifted it off before it got to that stage. Maybe they thought the smell was coming from next door. omgwtfBBQ!!!11!!

Studies have been done and show that men, who use their laptops on their laps tend to have a lower sperm count because the heat gets to their ping pongs and beats up the sperm! :lol:
So think twice before putting a laptop on ur lap... (if ur a guy)
