dont run any antivirus app. used to run norton anti virus which detected regularly some funny windows viruses. but never a mac one. so i feel quite save within this minority.:)
does anyone ever found a mac-virus? and do you think its too risky without protection?
ohh, i run littleSnitch. that alarms me evertime some process wants to connect to the internet.
Posted by: sw33t1
i dont have anti virus running
on occasion i will scan and i use Kaspersky when i do.
and marek yes there are mac virii,but not many people exploit mac like they do windows because look at the number of windows users versus mac/linux etc..
if i wanted to get the most out of my mal code i would attack windows for sure.

KAV or NOD32. Right now NOD32 as realtime & KAV (3.5 older version) as on demand.
Posted by: silkmaze
I use Kaspersky. NOD was just taking too much away from my resources for me to live with and with every bootup, the machine took forever to get ready. With KAV there are no such problems. I am up and running in one quarter of the time. And on my other machine, I don't use a AV at all. I mean, come on, when was the last time linux users had to worry about a virus. :-)

NOD32 all the way :D
Posted by: Biggest_Baddest_Wolf
NOD32 all the way.
I've used Norton, Macaffee, Avast, BitDefender and several others, but so far NOD32 blew them all away.
Of course, I also use a less-known antivirus as back-up, which I'm not naming here, so my success-rate on nailing virusses and other no-no's is near 100%.
NOD32 is set to scan things first, and after it is done, the other one kicks in and scans a second time.
The second one is slower, and NOD32 still caught probably some 99.9% of nasty things trying to infect me, but there have been a few cases (two so far, over the last year... maybe three or four since I went for NOD32 some two-and-a-half years ago) where NOD didn't pick up a nasty, and the other one did.
Posted by: Ariel_001
I am using NOD32 2.50.25 :)

<3 NOD32 <3
I had never heard about this antivirusprogram before I came over a review at some hardware/software page. After I read it I started using at once and I have never regret. In my opinion is the best program I ever have used. I've tried alot of different programs but this is the shit.
It's lightweight and does use alot of resources like Symantec and so on.
It's clean, simple and have a huge list of viruses in it's database. Not that other programs don't, but it small, unknown and therefore very protected against big virus that is attacking Symantec, Panda and tries to disable them. No one have designed virus to disable NOD32. So therefore I like it alot.
So all my love to NOD32. Try it
Posted by: Money Fist
Nod
this is nice and compact as well as resourse friendly and still holds out at being one of the best AV scanner programs
i have never seen it take the piss with my CPU & memory
except when doing a manual virus scan (duh)

Norton Internet security 2005
good but kills the resources and it takes too much time when booting windows.
i hear too mcuh about NOD32, hows the live protection(auto protect)? ive used it once but never intended to keep it, and does it comes with a firewall like NIS2005?
the stand alone version which is used for scaning was good at catching virus but doesnt clean them enough.
Posted by: DanB
Kaspersky Personal Pro v5.0.2
Posted by: Fuzzo
I use kaspersky, I used to use norton, but I switched to kaspersky to see what it was like, and it found much more then Norton.

Norton is Symantec.
? What do you mean? Well, I know what you mean, Norton is made by the company Symantec, but they are 2 different programs. There is Symantec Antivirus Corporate, and then Norton Antivirus. The difference is that the latter must be payed for once a year, and the first one is a pay once kind of thing.

Norton (Symantec systemworks 2004). I've used AVG and liked it. I've hated McAffee for years - it always had conflicts with other software I was using.
My favorite AV software was Thunderbyte. It was an excellent product back in the days of MsDos, but it got swallowed up by another AV company (Norman) (http://www.norman.com/Product/no). You can read about TBAV from it's author's website (http://users.knoware.nl/users/veldman/frans/english/tbav.htm)
I've tried Norman's AV and never found it anywhere as good as TBAV.

I've ben using Avast and am very happy!
Posted by: kantryl
I had Norton and it used to lock my system everytime it found a virus.
I have been using AVG Free Edition for a while now and am happy with
how it works. Also use Trend Micro online scan to verify.

hmmmm.......you 15 ppl that voted 'none'.....
don't come into the software section later with your problems,
like windows feckin up and shutting down and goin absolute bugshit
no AV is ok for a PC not connecting to any network, p2p, email, etc
but if you're plugged in and not protected.......
any malicious applications you get are your fault
and you ppl relying on ZA to do it.....same to you :lol:
stay out of the software forum, I don't wanna hear it,
and I'm sure most others wouldn't wanna hear it from someone who brought it on themselves
anyway, back to the votes.....mine's changed
-1 for Symantec and +1 for NOD32 :P
(cheers to nsane for his verifieds and all)
yeah I know I always harped on Symantec Corp, been using it for years,
but I had to find out what all the hoorah was about NOD32
goin on about a week now, no complaints

Why isnt "clamwin" anti virus on the list?
I use it along with avg and yes...... its open source....and free!
h**p://www.clamwin.com/
(change the "**" to....tt)
PS.... it will pick up on items that avg does not.
(it is for windows users)
ClamWin Free Antivirus uses the GNU General Public License by the Free Software Foundation and is free (as in freedom) software. To find out more about GNU General Public License and what it entitles you to, please visit the following link: Philosophy of the GNU Project - Free Software Foundation.
ClamWin Free Antivirus comes with an easy installer and open source code at no cost. It features:
* Scanning Scheduler;
* Automatic Virus Database Updates. ClamAV team updates Virus Databases on a regular basis and almost immediately after a new virus/variant is out;
* Standalone Virus Scanner;
* Context Menu Integration to Microsoft Windows Explorer;
* Addin to Microsoft Outlook.
The latest version of Clamwin Free Antivirus is 0.87.1
Please note that ClamWin Free Antivirus does not include an on-access real-time scanner, that is, you need to manually scan a file in order to detect a virus. Microsoft Outlook Addin, however will delete a virus-infected attachment automatically.
BTW...... Norton is a huge system hog...... the worst I have ever seen.....

ClamWin - not just because it's open source and free, but because it's good. Low on resources, has a lot that AVG Free does not have - like scheduling, for example. What AVG Free has over it (at the moment) is live scanning. ClamWin does manual or scheduled system scans, though, and you can always right-click a file and scan it. ClamWin can integrate with Outlook, but don't use Outlook; instead, search Google for third-party ClamWin plugins for your preferred email client - they're out there. I use TheBat! and easily found a ClamWin plugin for it.
Note also that ClamWin has detected stuff AVG did not - and I don't mean keygens and harmless things, either!

Funny thing is , those with AVG think they really have the ants pants.
I mean its like Amway people , it only takes a certain breed to sell it.
Norton users or Symantec users , at least have open minds.
Trend Micro users have at least made a choice without advertising shoved at them
But AVG users... wierd bunch. :stars:
