silent laptop

HI, I would like some advise. I'm thinking about buying a laptop, in order to write down my lessons live at the university. I don't know if it's allowed, but whatever, I 'm looking for a laptop, very silent, talking about the fans, the harddrive, and the keys on the keyboard, I would also need the baterie to work at least 4 hours before loosing power.
I don't need this laptop to work for anything else than microsoft word,I 've got a powerfull computer at home for everthung else.
I was thinking maybe on assembling one, what do you think? is it as easy as with a normal computer?

Don't build you own laptop.
Most laptops are very quiet (fans, hard drive and keyboards). Go try them out in the stores. You'll be able to select all the best features best suited for you. Take your time to study them closely and don't let the salespeople push you.

You probably want a laptop with a "mobile" cpu. The ones with a desktop cpu will have more fans to keep cool. The price of building a laptop is very expensive and your component choices are limited.

Good point. Mobile CPUs produce less heat so less cooling needed and less power consumed (longer battery life).

I was rather thinking about buyting a second hand one, do you know for instance wich cpu produces the less heat?

There are many other factors that affects CPU heat. If you're just using a word processor, just focus on the cost, for the CPU will not run at 100%, but if you're encoding video, then you might want to worry about it.

I think the only fact that the os is running contributes to cpu usage
BTW I think I should get win 98 or 95 for less cpu usage no?

Yes. If you remember Windows 9X then you remember it used to crash at random times when running the simplest programs.
