How to rip streaming movies with firefox
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)Posted by: 99%
Most of you already know this..anyway
Whether its swf, mov, wmv, etc, etc in a page
Method 1 - Via page info
-right clik on page (not on the actaul movie) > clik "page info" > tab "media"
-look for the file described as "embed" (make sure its the right one)
-simply clik "save as"
-done
however sometimes movies take a long time to load - forexample http://www.lotsofrobots.com/Web3/MoviePlayMain/MovieDisplay/LOR_Play_V2All3.htm
so if you press "save as" - nothing will happen until the movie is totally loaded in the cache. to speed it up
-open the pageinfo>media>clik save as
-then close the page where the movie is loading
-and the "save" menu will instantly pop up.

Method 2 - via adblock extension
V1: clik on the "adblock" tablet thingy above the movie - copy the adress. (close the adblok window - dont clik Ok)
-put in adress bar > enter
-then goto "file" - save page as
-done
V2 : if the movie takes up the whole page (and in most of these cases there is no menu bar) and you cant right clik or save page as - in bottom right of firefox - clik "adblock" - copy adress - open new window in firefox, past in adress - file save page as.

There's an extension for Firefox which spose to re-enable the right click on those
sites where they think that disabling it prevents something.
(wich it does not, only takes a little more time to get the goods,
ie. its only annoying)
Posted by: BawA
or u can right click a Site, Choose "View Source" and search for any kinda of Media Formats, Example:
Search for a ".Mov" for Quick time formats and copy the URL.

to view sources without right-clicking: [Ctrl]-[U] ;) (works in mozilla too)

open the playlist with notpad and use a download manager like GetRight, StreamBox!VCR, or Net Transport.
Posted by: Ricey

Posted by: Vargas
use it to download the files in the playlist of course, getright for http, streambox for mms or net transport for anything the first two can't handle
Posted by: Ricey

Very useful information. Unfortunately I can't get anything to work on Showtime's site. I'm trying to save a video on this page (http://www.sho.com/site/weeds/bts.do) titled "Your dealer name..."
I've tried every variation of the file source, tried Firefox and MSIE, Net Transport, Flash Saving Plugin. Nothing seems to work.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

We at Showtime Online express our apologies; however, these pages are intended for access only from within the United States.

does dta work with Real Media audio/videos too?

i never used that extention since i use a different browser, but if the site has links to "just the playlist files" you will need to open them with notepad and copy the URL into a download manager like net transport to download the full media files via rtsp or http
your mileage may vary :)

Thank you, I didn't know that.

Wow, this thread is old... Nowadays IŽd recommend the "Downloadhelper" Firefox extension as its updated frequently and new sites are added often.

nice methods .
but i think in some sites
u have to wait till its start to buffer only not till it load it all
just when u see that they start buffering u can go click Tools>page info> and select the media u want Or right click on it and select copy file location

Thanks. Didn't know this was possible.
