any GUI file installers for linux

I use knoppix std and I want to install something (don't mind to isntall on RAM or hda1) but I would like an easy file installer that will allow me to choose the ifle I want to install and it will do it for me. Files like tgz files etc.
Is there such thing? Thanks

you could give www.ubuntulinux.org which has a package manager which will download and update the packages
