Posted by: Tylerrought

thats hot, it would be helpful in css too.

Posted by: Smith

So can you pick what icon to put on that led?

Posted by: Shiranai_Baka

The mobile phone thing doesn't really help people that much. I read another article and the person who's in charge claimed around 150 to 200.

Posted by: lee551

i'd buy it just for those extra 'programmable' keys. :naughty:

Posted by: Skizo

I agree with Rick, this just got added to my wishlist. :)

Posted by: ready1

I want it simply for games

Posted by: Rizindon

that is one sick keyboard.... i want one !

Posted by: harrycary

As I understand, the keys use OLEDs(organic light emitting diode) to display images.

And, you will be able to put any image you want on them.

The inherit problem is that OLEDs of that size [and used in that manor] are relatively new.

Definitely don't want to be a first generation user.

Very cool though, I hope it starts a trend in keyboards.

peace

Imagine a virus that can remap your OLED buttons with an annoying porn button! :w00t:

Damn that sucks :( I wonder how long it will be before we actually see one of these here

Optimus keyboard already patented in the U.S.!

http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000437052405/Having read the patent description I'd say that the patent holder has tried to be a little too clever. As someone on that site has said, the patented design specifically has statically identified CTRL, ALT and SHIFT keys. But the Optimus clearly does not, therefore the patent does not apply.

Posted by: GepperRankins

patents for things that don't exist are fucking stupid. FU america :mad1:

I don't see the big deal about this keyboard....? So you can program keys to have certain icons... I just don't get it. My cheap microsoft keyboard allows me to bind f1-f12 and my additional 19 buttons to run any application I want. I can't change the icons for them, but I don't really need to because I don't have problems remember what I've binded each key to... I think if you need icons to remember, you're not using it enough to really make a difference anyhow. How many people actually look down at their keyboards when they type now a days to where you'd actually need the custom icons? Somebody mentioned how great this would be for cs:s; you can set up scripts in cs:s to carry out any set of commands as far as buying helmet, armor, weapon, ammo, etc... I just don't understand the big deal about this keyboard. Please, if I'm missing something, explain... Thanks.

Play with this - http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus/demo/

Hit caps, the Photoshop and Half-Life links, etc.

Not a necessity, but a cool peripheral, indeed.

Posted by: y7deluxe

I see what it does and it's neat. But I never look at my keyboard and I was under the assumption the rest of the people on the internet that are younger than 30 don't look at their keyboards either, so I just didn't see any purpose. Also, even if I needed to look at the keyboard when I typed, I wouldn't pay even 100 dollars for that keyboard. There are just sooooo many other things I could use my money on.

Posted by: mbucari1

Looks awesome but also has USB 2.0 hub!!!

ME WANT TOO!!

Posted by: y7deluxe

lol, i give up. I guess it's the same reason I can't understand people wanting neon lights in their computers, flames on their cars or spinning wheels.

To each his own........

I'm about to drop another $300 tomorrow on a tattoo addition. Some think its pissing away my money, I see it as just something I want. ;)

I must agree, totally. The thing is over $1500 also.

For gaming, give me an 8 (or more) button mouse and a Wii-style nunchuka control for movement. I hate using keyboards for anything when gaming.

wtf just realized the faq used to say:
It will cost less than a good mobile phoneHow much do they think agood mobile phone costs?

Posted by: y7deluxe

Wow, I didn't realize it was $1500. I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep at night anymore knowing people are going to spend that much money on a keyboard...
