I want to install Avast 5.00
What is 5.00 like has it gone bloated like AVG did ?

    I liked Avast 4.8

I couldn't tell you, I stopped using Avast long ago. However, if you're looking for a light antivirus, try NOD32 2.7 plus the fix to get a virtually infinite amount of trial days with full updates.

I'm a Tech and the few computers I've tried it on so far have all had problems with it, so I don't like it.

Use Avira it's a better free AV with less problems.

Search for Avira AntiVir Premium impressions... you won't be disappointed.

I stopped using avast cause it insisted on tagging all my keygens as trojans when they were actually clean. To me thats like crying wolf, if you get so used to it lying to you , you will not catch the real one when it comes by. Avira is alittle better but I gave that the boot as well after fighting with it for a few months. But I would rather use a free version of something that has to call home to be effective, than to crack one. there is a new free version of Adaware out now thats a combination of spyware and anti-virus (I believe its also real time anti-virus as opposed to on-demand like clamwin is). It doesn't have a firewall but there are other free ones out there. I have downloed Adaware free but haven't tried it yet, I use clamwin and a-squared now in combination but they're both on-demand and I have to manually test files I download. Besides that, a-squared made some drastic changes in version 5 and I don't like it anymore it sucks. I uninstalled it and reinstalled the older version, but I can't let it update itself or it will force you into the sucky one, so without being able to update the data base its toast in a month or so.

If I had to pick one though I guess it would be antivir (avira) since its issue with me was a conflict with BCWipe, a file wiper I use. and it would tag its dummy files as trojans when I was wiping files that it would scan as clean. BCwipe creates a dunmmy file as it wipes (ABCDEFG etc) and as it was wiping, avira would stop the process and say it was a trojan and I would have to click on ignore several times throught the wiping process. It became so annoying I gave Avira the boot. I contacted them about it but they seemed not to care, I even sent then screens of me scanning a file that showed clean and then wiping the same file causing warnings. So basically I dumped them for having terrible customer support, after all I could have used Eraser instead of BCWipe.
