I don't know! It don't make sense to me either.IMO it just clog's up the members list by taking up space.
i think the great dude wanted to experience being a newb again...
for somebody1234, i guess he could've just had an admin change his name?

Well, I think that it's to just have a fresh start. Besides, you can have a little fun with it too. :D
@merlin-1: At least these new accounts are contributing to the boards unlike some users that just join for the verifieds and NEVER do anything to help. <_<

Our members have made a total of 161,740 posts
We have 15,688 registered members
The newest member is ...
Most users ever online was 418 on 6 April 2003 - 20:32
IMO it just clog's up the members list by taking up space.
Instead of 15,688 registered members we could have had 15,687 or maybe a few less...
Wow! Are you really concerned about us "clogging up" the members list?
Anyway I don't know why the others are doing it but I am just making a simple statement that postcounts don't matter.
I also wanted a little change, that's all.
somebody wants to become a Newcomer again too :P lololz.... clogging members list... how much space does this server exactly have? and how much space is used already?
Of course...if anyone is really that bothered about posts counting then they would never post to the lounge at all....I must admit to having a gen for a star or two....but not in any sad way....I mean if I have to start again....so be it no big deal.....I have considered changing just to get rid of my gender bias name which I just wasn't thinking about when I started out here....thats all.

My alias online name "SolidWing68" has stayed the same most of the time and I never change it when I join another forum/website/etc..

No, don't send this to the lounge. You have enough places to spam, Soul814. Leave this here and stop spamming it.

I like to be a newb again and the post counts doesn't matter, as it says in my sig  , and support for the creation of a bookworld. :w00t: By the, way it's a "unique" avatar you got there.

;) Some of us did it because we were sick and tired of all the talk about spam and stars.

If anyone changes theie name/starts a new account, they should put a little message in the sig or user title stating who they previously was. Saves confusion.

Couldnt agree more my learned Musicworld
I do believe Sherlock_Holmes, Doctor_Watson & Proff.Moriarty felt exactly the same way.
Then in turn they got sick & tired all together and left ;)

I thought Somebody1234 was tired of being a nobody. Must have seen a Speedy Muffler commercial (... at Speedy, your a somebody!) lol.
Nice to see you back UKMan.
Curley has a good point about tagging previous user name.
I think The Wise Man just wanted a user name more in keeping with the new avatar. He wasn't sure about his old guy being a "dude".
Change is good. Anything to keep things fun.
Cheers, omc

Problems with multiple accounts are these, in my opinion:
- It can confuse newer members when an old one gets 'reborn' with a new name.
- It can get out of hand: imagine 50 or 100 more people doing the same, at that moment nobody will know anybody anymore.
- Polls won't be very trustworthy anymore if the same person can vote more than once.
- If somebody does something wrong and gets moderated, he simply can create another account, 'because members like UKman, Nobody1234, Funky Capricorn and The_Great_Dude are allowed to do so too'.
Personaly I liked this namechanging, and it definitely helped ending these endless discussions about postcounts, but it can have some serious side effects I'm affraid.

I don't think you have to worry about somebody1234 getting moderated, he pretty much keeps to himself ;)
j/k, I know what you meant, just have to be careful with your names
I agree with your point that name changing could have negative effects, but wouldn't the mods pretty much know who was who by the IP addresses?

I see your point, Bender. If my name change causes that problem and the admin/mod team want it disallowed then I will comply to any new rule about this. I am on your side with this one. If someone is being "moderated" uses this tactic then i'm sure we can all agree to some control measures.
@RPerry, yes I pretty much keep to myself. What's your point?  (j/k, no need to answer.)

At last someone who understands why it was done in the first place :D
I have to agree about it being confusing though - heck, it was damn impossible to keep my own brains in order let alone others
@oldmancan

for most ppl they will but for ppl like me who are on dial-up  we have ever changing IP's everytime we connect so they probably wouldn't be able to track us :P....... or am i way off track??

I can understand why a few peeps changed accounts/left after all the crap with stars and titles (amongst other bitchings) but to be honest I dont think any of the regulars could ever leave us and I'm hoping UKman has set an example with his reappearence.
Its easter soon, lets hope for a resurrection of old users/accounts!!
