View Full Version : Locking gas caps now in short supply

The word from Pittsburgh is that auto parts suppliers are rapidly selling out of locking gas caps, which were originally invented in the 30s because of gas thefts during the Great Depression. Buyers are reporting their gas tanks have been siphoned, or that they want to head off potential siphoning due to ever-rising gas prices. Some stores are having difficulty getting more units in stock from manufacturers. If ever there were a time to kick yourself over having gone with that SUV, this looks like it.

I just made that up, it's is entirely possible that my statement is incorrect - but hardly likely.

Does this mean it is a bad time to buy my life's fantasy - a suv or a hummer?

I've never seen a car come with a locking gas cap.

I'm thinking about getting one myself. The outer door locks but that's easy to pry open.

I remember talking to a fella about a month ago that had one with a combination on it.

I'm glad I stayed away from an SUV. Alot of folks I work with either have Expeditions, Escalades, Avalanches  , Suburbans or Tahoes.

It's bad enough that I have a V8. :(

If I were to get a gas guzzling truck, I'ma gonna make it count.

Cadillac Escalade ESV. It's a rebadged Suburban with better cosmetics and bells and whistles.

Gettin' Paid In Da Esssscalaaaade!!!

My second pick, a Land Rover Range Rover. The LR3 ain't too bad either although I never liked it's predecessor.

It's just too small and impractical for a struggling poor man like myself. (over $70 grand)

David: <angry> You didn't fit the lockable petrol cap, did you.
Devon: Why would you want one of those?
David: Some cunt just nicked my petrol while I was buying cigs. I had to walk here from the Spar.
