79-0 now.

However, Warne is on and he is looking in greeat form. Adster, can't believe how defeatist you are. There is still a looooong way to go and a few quick wickets, as always, will change the whole complexion of the game.

The toss this morning was a good one to win :D

manker
09-08-2005, 12:06 PM
Just think, Thorpe might have played all 5 tests instead of Bell. Selection for the first test between the pair (and Pietersen) was touch and go but now Thorpe's retired.

With hindsight, having Thorpe in the side would have been so much better but it looks like we're stuck with Bell now :(

Adster

id be goign with collingwood there at 4 and Jones when he comes back form injury

Adster
09-08-2005, 12:37 PM
and that fuckwit warne england cant play him

manker
09-08-2005, 12:41 PM
England are in trouble. This is a good batting track and Warne is hammering them on the first day. The pitch can only deteriorate.

Normally I would say that one player can't win the match on his own ... but Warne probably can :ermm:

Adster
09-08-2005, 12:42 PM
one thing england need to learn is to play warne then they might win a ashes have to wait till he retires I guess

the guy can play til 60 and still take wickets like this

manker
09-08-2005, 12:46 PM
Nobody in the world can consistently play Shane Warne. Brian Lara can ... sometimes - but even he gets confused. How the fuck are the whole England team supposed to learn it.

The reason we're 2-1 up is because the rest of the Aussie team have been consistently worse than England. Warne apart, England completely pwn this Aussie team.

manker
09-08-2005, 12:56 PM
The problem England are going to have in this match is that there is nothing in this pitch for the seamers - and Giles isn't going to cause many problems.

I've not seen Lee or McGrath swing it so the England fast bowlers are going to have to rely on pace and bounce. That renders Hoggard and Colllingwood pretty much ineffective so a lot will depend on Flintoff but especially Harmison, who hasn't really played at all well this summer.

I can see Australia piling up a big total in their first innings, we need at least 350 to be competitive and at 145-4 - that's looking improbable.

Channel 4 just switched their converage to horse racing, for the meeting in Doncaster.

Fucking horse racing!!! :@ :@

Adster
09-08-2005, 01:19 PM
dunno we said the same thing in the last test it had no swing and look what Hoggard and jones did when australia came out to bat!! they got it to swing

manker
09-08-2005, 01:27 PM
Maybe the showers forecast for tomorrow and Saturday will help the conditions for the seamers so Hoggard, at least, will be able to get some swing. I can't see Collingwood bowling more than 8 overs per innings anyhow.

Flintoff and Harmison may prefer for the pitch to remain bone dry, so it's swings and roundabouts.

Adster
09-08-2005, 02:14 PM
warne shoulder problems and Mcgrath doesn't look fit

manker
09-08-2005, 02:14 PM
213-4 at tea.

Pretty good considering the damage Warne inflicted during the middle period. The Aussie seamers look benign, Warne looked a bit tired and was replaced with Katich (Katich!!).

Strauss and Flintoff are lucky Australia don't have another world class bowler who is match fit.

Adster
09-08-2005, 02:21 PM
Tait has a lot to learn and Lee well hes inconsitant as usual looks hot one game cold the next

Adster
09-09-2005, 12:07 AM
that a pretty good score 7 for 319 at stumps see what happens tomorrow

manker
09-09-2005, 09:29 AM
Not a bad score but it could have been so much more if Flintoff hadn't got himself out and Strauss decided to stop playing any shots an hour and a half before stumps. He was playing too defensively.

Btw, loadsa reverse swing late on, even for a pish bowler like Tait. Can't wait til Flintoff gets a hold of the old ball - plus it's likely to be overcast today :naughty:

manker
09-09-2005, 10:59 AM
377 all out.

Guess I'd have settled for that at the start of play. Now to see how teh Aussies do.

They'll need at least 500 (prolly 550) if they're to win the game.

manker

Adster

they will make up for lost time anyway

and Aust just need 500 runs and bowl england out cheaply (well warne bowl them out anyway) then chase a modest 100 to win the game

thats the onyl way Aust can win this game

if Hayden stays in hes wasting time out there England better off keeping him in and not getting him out

manker
09-09-2005, 04:04 PM
This is stupid, Australia should be out there batting - it's not that dark. When England were on top of the Aussie bowling, they were batting in teh rain.

Australia = scardy cats.

Barbarossa
09-09-2005, 04:15 PM
There's some great quotes from Phil Tufnell on the BBC website! :D

If I was an Englishman, I wouldn't mind sitting on the balcony and watching the rain come down. I can't understand why the Aussies aren't out there. England will quite happily sit around for the next three days.

Wimbledon's not my part of town - they never used to let me in...

If we used sub fielders as much in my day, it would have been beautiful. I would have had time for a couple of fags, a quick shower...lovely.

manker
09-10-2005, 02:01 PM
It's good of you to say but I can still see Australia winning this test if just one of the pace men can back up Warne in England's second innings. If Lee bowls like he did in England's second innings at Trent Bridge, or McGrath gets anwhere near his best then our batsmen will shit themselves.

The forecast for Sunday and Monday is pretty much unbroken sunshine so there is a good chance even if it rains til after tea.

the ashes goes down to England's 2nd innings if they decide to defend warne well.... thats trouble they should play there natural game

England are really missing Simon Jones

manker
09-11-2005, 08:42 AM
England are really missing the Aussies batting like Phil Tufnell too

Richie Benaud is retiring from broadcasting at the end of this series and he said that this is the best test match series that he's ever watched. When he says something like that, you have to take notice.

I've definitely never enjoyed watching teh cricket so much.

Hayden is out, maybe a good thing for teh Aussies so far as the scoring rate is concerned.

Maybe they should promote Gilchrist up the order.

manker
09-11-2005, 01:00 PM

Nah, the fact you don't have a lead is in England's favour. Basically, whatever we do - you have to do better and you may not have time to do so.

I think bowling you out early is a good thing for England - altho' Shane Warne said this morning that he would have declared overnight

I'm not tempting fate again :P

Warne's got his ten wickets this match already - he couldn't have done much more.

I would say, no matter what the result today, that Warne is the player of the series.

Flintoff has been magnificent but Warne just edges it, imo.

I think Bell has p,layed his last test for England for some time tooThis (http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/4213208.stm) would seem to suggest so.

Altho' I think he'll tour Pakistan, but not be first choice. He's only young and the selectors will want to keep faith with him for a while longer.

A first test series against Australia is a pretty harsh way to judge a player.

who knows england might even win this game if Aust go out blasting and loose wickets lolCan't see Australia bowling us out atm, they seem really lacklustre since the tea-break.

Pietersen just hit Warne back over his head for his 6th six - and then did it again for his 12th four :01:

Warne takes six wickets in this innings too, as England are bowled out for 335.

40 wickets in the series, plus his batting was terrific.

What a player.

Fantastic series, well done to both teams.

Congrats to England, it's surprising how many chaps in Scotland were supporting them.

Fuck, it's surprising how many knew the test was on, never mind cared about it.

Awesome.

The regulatory body is the England and Wales Cricket Board.

It's a mistake made by many fair weather fans.

I've been following Justin Langer's Diary on the BBC website this summer. I don't know if he gets it edited but his words always flow well - a good read. Simon Jones writes one too but he's not quite so eloquent.

No matter what te circumstances, Langer always wrote his thoughts shortly after the day's play had ended.

However, the git hasn't updated it since Sunday
