The days of unparing, then unraring, are over. You only need this app. Just download all your stuff during the day then at night before bed or before you go to work open this program and start it up. When you get home or wake up the only thing that will be in your folders will be the .img or .iso or whatever files you end up with. Takes all the work out of newsgroups.

RarSlaveGUI

RarSlaveGUI is a simple front end to a program called RarSlave, developed by salami.

What is RarSlave?

RarSlave does all the annoying tasks involved when you have a set of RAR files. This means:

- It scans the given directory and subdirectories for PAR2 files
- It checks and repairs using the PAR2 files
- If repair is possible or unneeded, it extracts from the .RAR files
- Upon success, it will delete the .PAR2 and .RAR files and continue with the next set.

It does that fully automated and can scan whole directories which can save you a lot of time.

What is RarSlaveGUI?

RarSlaveGUI is a frontend Windows tool to RarSlave.

It has shell integration. i.e when you right click on a folder in Windows Explorer, if there are .par2 files in the folder or in the subfolders up to a max of 3 deep, you will get the following:

Installation

1. Download RarSlave and extract files to a folder:

2. Download RarSlaveGUI and extract files to the same folder:

3. Start RarSlaveGUI.exe and use or enable Shell Integration for the Windows Explorer add-in.

I only get the base .par2 to check with and then if need be get whats needed.
Having an app to automate all the rest would be very nice indeed though...

I don't like to download all the PAR files, because they can add half a gigabyte to my download. I only download the RAR files, then see if i need to download a par or not, it makes it easier on my hard drive and my monthly ISP download limit of 40gb.

This seems like the ideal program to help climatize "noobs" to the Usenet environment. Nice post, muchspl3.

Peace bd

Nice app. Unfortunately, if my Newsgroups HDD is full, like 99% of the time, it's prob best I do it manually to ensure I don't get half way through a RAR and have to stop to clear some space.

Well worth a sticky though ;)

Yea,I have to agree on this one.
I actually hope that NG's will never become as popular to the "mainstream" as all the other networks are.

Not only to keep RIAA's and other wankers' attention away from them but I also don't want to see Usenet turn in to what fasttrack is now, because of all the stupid noobs sharing crap files and clogging the servers with it.

Oh,and I'll just stick to QuickPAR for all my PARRING needs.
I can count the times I ever needed PARS to restore files on one hand, when I still had my payserver subscription.

And when I do need them I just see what volume PARS I need (never needed more then 5) instead of dl'ing the whole lot.
