View Full Version : Posts That Don't Show Up

I have noticed something strange. Sometimes when I or other members make a post they don't show up right away. This happens when the thread should continue to its next page. It shows the "Last Post By: user" but no post is there. If you keep posting to that thread the missing posts suddenly appear. Sometimes it takes up to 4 additional posts before they appear.

This causes quite a confusion when dealing with technical issues. The thread looses continuity and make things hard to follow.

Is there anyway to investigate this trouble and hopefully solve it?

it sort of happened to me.

my post didn't show up, so i rewrote it, and then it showed up when i posted the second one.

it even brought me to the thread, but my post wasn't there.

edit:clarification

LOL ! Its been happening to me quite a bit lately too. I've been getting "cannot find server" when I try to post, then I post a second time..and the first post shows up. (?) Yesterday I replied to a post and it never showed up in the replies column.. but the post was there. Go figure.

This time I get "the page cannot be found"

Can we block all the guests again like before? I mean, let's find a solution for everyone. :)

while this is brought up, has anyone heard from or seen Jon around in a while?

Think we should remove the "Kazaa Lite Forum Link" from KaZaA Lite.

So the board gets some less visitors.

Or changing the server .. i'll try to talk with Jon in the next days ( thats not easy because of the different timezones ). Maybe he has another place for this board.

I agree with the comments made above. Maybe the board should be only visible to registered users, that way it might be more faster for all us regulars. I don't see the point in having a guest room either.... if guests want help so bad, then they'll register and ask for it.

I'm not convinced that the problem I described will be solved by reducing the traffic or by changing servers. It may solve other problems like: "Too many connections" error but not the posts not appearing.

We need to find out what is causing the problem before jumping to conclusions.

we love jumping to conclusions

maybe its aliens taken them for experimentation

@Somebody1234

i could imagine that some things are saved wrong in the database through the heavy server load

or the aliens ...

I'm not a conspiracy theorist normally but if we got aliens here then i am a believer  :o .

..cool,just hope im not going to be experimented on next :( :alien: :alien: :w00t:

I've just realised... if you can't see the last reply on a certain post, just click on the reply button and you'll be able to read it.

Yes, Curley, I noticed the same thing.

I posted these messages in the Lounge>Biggest Spam Post In The World:

This thread may come in handy to solve the strange "posts not appearing" problem. It seems to do it at every new page now.
Once again I can't see the last post(s).

I can't see them when I try to view them but I can see them after I click 'Add Reply'. I can see them in the area marked "Last 10 Posts [ In reverse order ]"

I see that the problem happens quite regularly in that thread. Maybe it could be used as a "Testbed" to resolve this issue.

Can't we try shutting down avatars and sigs... just to see if the traffic will decrease, and the problem will go...

The last month we have a lot more animated avatars and sigs...

Maybe worth the try for just a few days....? ;)

Well Jetje, YOUR avatar is certainly one of the more, shall we say, animated...

Hypnotic, really. :P

Could always check to see if people's avatar/sig combos are well within the rules. I know I've seen a number that exceed it by quite a bit.

It would only take about one hour of the sigs and avatars turned off in order to find out if that solves this problem.

I agree with this too. There are still a lot of users that are not within the limits set by VB.

@VB, I noticed that you were in the 'Biggest Spam Post In The World'. You posted "ets" and "btz".
Was that a test to see if this problem was still there? I ask you this because the trouble does not happen in the middle of a page. It happens when a new page should start.

If there is anything more I can do to help find the solution, just ask. :)

Hmm does this just happens in big threads ( 5 - x pages ) ?

No idea why this happens .. i'll have to ask some IPS support guys.

I'm not quite sure but I think it has happened to me once on a page # 2. (I can't be sure about that.)

Its a little late now.... but I agree. I have my own forum (sucks) and it runs on invision and it dosent do this.

Do you have the same amount of users and traffic??? just using the same software doesn't prove it.. ;)
