I Just Read Where A New Version Of the Ps2 Is Coming Out may15.It Can Read DVRR-,+rw"s.but not dvdrams.does anyone know if a chip will be needed to play backups

This is an update to the hardware to cut costs, and will be launched in Japan only initaly.
as for playing recored DVD's, my r7 PS2 playes them verywell with no need for chip's (Vid's anyway).
the improvements are only for the DVD-Video playback section - read here (http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/54/30275.html)


As with all versons of the PSX, PS2 etc, to play copied (sorry - backed up) games a chip will be needed

defo not ps3 its just like an upgrade which to be truthfull the chip does anyway and plays backups :lol:
