Hi Guys

I used to have ME and used a version of Hide Folders to hide a few "sensitive" folders that had a few "sensitive" pics in them.

I am now using XP and my old version of Hide Folders will not work. I will need to buy version 2.00 they say.

Does anyone know of a free utility that will do this easily ?

Well PGP may work or might be more than you want as it actually encrypts what you want...

Why not just rename your porn pics folder to something boring like Ati driver update ?

Works for me . ;)

Burn the "data" to CD or DVD.

why don't you try adding zip folder

go to mydocs (for example) and right click. select new compressed folder. name as someting unintelligible...or whatever you want. then open the folder and go to file and add password.

beware: people can still see what's in the folders, they just can't access them, so no obsure names.. :P

Thanks guys

Lots of good suggestions.

But I want to keep my files on my hard drive (I do back them up to CD-RW !)

I was hoping there might be a free "hide my folders" porgram out there.

As I said I used to use Hide Folders, it was so easy to use - just select the folders you wish to hide and then when you boot up, they are not visiible. Click on a couple of keys and voila ! the folders and the files within them appear !

Try this:

http://www.everstrike.com/lock_folder.htm

It's not free... but that shouldn't "stop" you...

Hope it helps

Create a new partition. Place it all inside. Set user restrictions through policy manager/admin tools...

I use Folder Security Personal 2.52
It just makes Folders un accessable to anyone unless you open Folder Security first and enter password!

Basically THIS (http://www.fspro.net/download/hfxp.zip) is a trial version of "Hide Folders XP" you should be able to unlock your private folders with this, and then lock them up with an encryption program, like Cryptainer LE (http://www.snapfiles.com/php/download.php?id=104638&pi=451760&a=7113567) found at Webattack.com (www.webattack.com). Enjoy, and don't get caught with your pants down

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe the other users he wants to hide the folders from are computer savvy.

I hide mine that way ;)

unless other people are actually looking for your stuff, it should suffice.

Getting a virus so you can't run any programs is a bit of an extreme way to hide your stuff imho :P

Hi guys,

Thanks for all of your suggestions, there were quite a few of them.

I still like the Hide Folders method as it served me well for 2 years on ME and will stop most people with just a little computer knowledge.

It is just that the files are on a computer that my 4 year old grandson uses and I would not want him to see them ! (nor my partner as she gets a bit upset when she sees them !)

A-ha! I see your problem. ;)

The way I dealt with this situation was to copy everything "sensitive" onto CD-Rom, which I then kept stashed away safely hidden.. only to be brought out when the coast is clear... ;)

Yes, stash them away under the bed, no one ever looks under the bed

Folder Guard is good for hideing sensitive pictures that cause erections. It only hides em in XP, but who's really gonna use Knoppix on your system to look for any hidden items? Safemode also gets around it, but no one will really take the time to check.
