"either word" and indeed you can. However only one option would be correct. Rather bizarrely it wouldn't be "correct", which is quite sweet.

To use both would just be mentalist.

I agree with Sara, they only show that you can do IQ tests.

They are culturally biased and of questionable worth.

Read this

(1) An IQ of 50 or below. This is the threshold below which most adults cannot cope outside of an institution. They can typically be taught to read at a 3rd or 4th grade level. However, they cannot normally function in the customary classroom setting, and they require special training programs.
(2) An IQ between 50 and 75. At this level of intelligence, they generally cannot complete elementary school. Most adults will need smarter help in coping with the world.
(3) An IQ between 75 and 105. Children in this IQ range are not generally able to complete a college prep course in high school.
(4) An IQ between 105 and 115. May graduate from college but generally, not with grades that would qualify them for graduate school.
(5) An IQ above 115. No restrictions.

For IQs in these ranges, the influence of IQ upon socioeconomic status is dramatic. 31% of those with IQs below 75 were on welfare, compared with 8% of those in the 90 to 110 IQ interval, and 0% in those with IQs above 125. 55% of mothers with IQs below 75 went on welfare after the birth of the first child, compared with 12% of those with IQs between 90 and 110, and 1% of those with IQs above 125. Income is highly dependent upon IQ up to an IQ-level of about 125.

I think I'll throw in with the two of you.

As a high-school senior, I tested at 184.

About four years later, after suffering a severe skull fracture and not knowing it (that's another story), I was tested at a Dr.'s request on a purely exploratory basis and scored 168.

It was a far different test, the product of one of the original "corrective" efforts aimed at helping minorities.

The doctor wanted, I believe, to see if there were lasting effects from my injury; he said the results were inconclusive-however I can definitely attest to a radical degradation in my ability to do high maths.

I count it a good day when can I do percentages in my head in aid of my wife's efforts to save money at the mall.

In essence, I am a mere mental shadow of my former self.

I don't know which method they were using mate, but your 184 would make you one of the greatest genuises to walk God's green Earth.

Feck even your wee 168 would place you alongside the greats.

Now I'm not saying this is not the case, I'm just surprised we haven't heard more about you. Or have we :shifty:

No, no, this was...actually, I don't remember the proper title of the test I took; at the time there were 3 or 4 of what were referred to as "standardized" tests, and the one used for scholastic purposes (one of two, I think, and the one I took) was not recognized as the most rigorous, by any means.

This test (I found out later from my father, who was a school-board president for many years) was favored by the teacher's associations as it reflected positively on their efforts.

There was a clinical version which was favored by the medical/scientific community for finding new "Einsteins", and yet another (formulated in the 80's, I think) used by groups like MENSA, which groups sought some unfathomable "purity" of measurement.

Just the same, I did extremely well on my SAT (1579) and ACT (31), and was offered a nice selection of scholarships, which I by-passed...see, I was intelligent, not smart.

I'd guess my 184 would translate into something on the order of a 150-160 score in current testing, which means (to me) I'm probably worth a solid 140 or so, provided I test while straight, sober and rested.

I can manage the first two pretty well, but the latter is a tester; I don't sleep awfully well these days.

I am overdue for my wheelchair by about 15 years, according to Dr. Thomas Mohr, orthopedic surgeon to the Green Bay Packers.

I don't think I'll need Steve's special 'putor to communicate, though.

Interesting fact learned today:

A recent study reveals women say an average of 7000 words per day, while men average 2000 or so.

Sounds about right to me.

Nonetheless-

I got something wrong in the math section of the SAT, and absolutely aced the ACT.

I dabbled around the edges of MENSA, but ultimately decided it didn't interest me.

It seemed they were heavily into pointless mental exercises and self-congratulatory rhetoric.

Then I thumped my melon, and decided lots of other things didn't interest me, either.

And here I am.

I think I like this more than I would have liked that, anyway.
