damn this piss me off. I could only get 18kB/s top speed though it says 128 KB/s, so I changed it to a high-speed lite up to 384 KB/s, it's still slow only get around 45kb/s, I used to get 200+ kb/s at other houses. what's the problem? is it because the modem or the hub too old or the cable is too long to reach basement.

Your connection spee dis actually 128kbps not 128KB/s...
There's a difference, one means kilobits and other is kilobytes.
Divide the connection speed by 8 (8 bits in a byte) and you get teh download speed.

Usually:
128kbps = 15kb/s
256kb/s = 30kb/s
384kbps = 45kb/s
1mbps = 130kb/s
2mbps = 260kb/s
etc.

What i'm trying to say is that you're getting exactly what you should get.

is this wireless or wired?

also, are u using all of ur upload bandwidth? i've found that if i upload @ max speed, my dl speed is slow. but if i tone it down by about 5-10kb/s, i max out my dl speed

and yea, Kb/s is not the same as KB/s. Kb is kilobits, and KB is kilobytes. 1 kilobyte = 8 kilobits.

so say ur isp advertises 4 Mb download speed (comcast), you really get 4000/8, or 500 kilobytes/sec

it's wired, but I don't think it's an issue now coz i was confused with kbps and kb/s. 4mb is not 4000? it's loke 4024 or somethting?

yep, in toronto area. so are youg getting the same download speed? rogers just raised the price, it's now $34.95 not 29.95. if cogeco is available in your area, I suggest you go for it. coz it's only about$44 for 5mbps with cogeco and the same price for 3 mbps with rogers. I didn't ask if rogers also rasied the price of internet express.
