Guido Fawkes (April 13 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_13), 1570 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1570)–January 31 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_31), 1606 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1606)), most commonly called Guy Fawkes, was a member of the group of Roman Catholic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Catholic) conspirators who attempted to carry out the Gunpowder Plot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunpowder_Plot). The conspirators had planned to assassinate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination) King James I (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_I_of_England) (James VI of Scotland) and all the members of both branches of the Parliament (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parliament) of England (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England). To do this, the House of Lords (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Lords) was to be blown up during the formal opening of the 1605 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1605) session of Parliament. Guy Fawkes was primarily responsible for the latter stages of the plan's execution. He was discovered before its completion, however. Following an interrogation, Fawkes and his co-conspirators were executed for treason (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treason).
In the United Kingdom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom), Newfoundland, Canada (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newfoundland), New Zealand (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand), South Africa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Africa), parts of the USA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USA), and formerly Australia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia), the Gunpowder Plot is commemorated annually on Guy Fawkes Night (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night), also called Bonfire Night. For some it is a celebration of the plot's failure, for others it marks the loss of a folk hero.

I went to the great fireworks thing at my mates house last year, the neighbours decided to moan and bitch so it was decided to fire the rockets at their house, deffinatly not the smartest idea, but it had nothing to do with me of course....

It was also funny when this thing that fired off 100 of these small things fell over and started firing at us, sort of run for your life kind of thing.

Now this year, all these bands are interfering with my reception in my room, i hate November 5th

We likewise are having the Beirut experience outside. Beautiful night for it this year. SGG and her bro have gone with friends to the big display down at the sea front.

I thought the piece up above was elegantly put "after interrogation"... it was, as I recall, a pretty nasty affair with lots of torture and a fairly unpleasant execution culminating in "the bonfire".

Strangely, I grew up thinking we were celebrating the attempt :) Bit eccentric my folks.

I don't recall much of the evening but I am reliably informed that I called Missus manker's best-friend's husband 'gay as fuck' because that day he'd spent £275 on bedding.

Interweb speak is creeping into my vocabulary :ermm:

Common sense FTW.

It comforts me to see that not all people turn into driveling fools when drunk.
