Wreaths constructed with artificial poppies used as a symbol of remembrance.

Remembrance Day or Armistice Day is a day of commemoration observed in the Commonwealth of Nations and various European countries (including France and Belgium) to commemorate World War I and other wars. It is observed on November 11 to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918. Remembrance Day is specifically dedicated to members of the armed forces who were killed during war, and was created by King George V of the United Kingdom on November 7, 1919 upon the suggestion of Edward George Honey.

There will be a 2 minute silence at 11.00am GMT. This means no posting as well for all those who observe this commemoration.

Anyone know of a list of who is going to take part in the Cenotaph Parade in London?

I was (this friday) part of the cenotaph wreath laying ceremony. I got chosen out of my corps along with a Sgt. (from my corps as well) to "escort" the dignataries out to the cenotaph and salute for them. It was quite the experience considering it was raining like crazy that day (anyone that lives in Surrey, BC should know). Still, it was a nice experience. I don't know why we had to do the whole escorting thing, but one thing that made no sense was why my CO made us 1 officer and 1 NCO go, I still don't know why he wouldn't want to send either 2 officers, or 2 NCO's to do the escorting job instead of 1 of both? Must be a ceremonial thing.

Anyway, let us remember those that gave their lives for our freedom, lest we forget.

I was part of the parade in 2000 when I was serving in the Army. Was wondering if they were there again but can't find that list I was after :(
