well im getting a PSP for christmas and i see loadsa people talking about downloading things for it from the internet, so basically what i wanna know is what stuff you can get and how it can be done?

the games that have been released are bloody £40 a shot... not on my wages lol

make sure its a 2.0 or LOWER (firmware)

because u can only download homebrew games and iso loaders for 1.50v. (you can downgrade 2.0 to 1.50)

just hope you will get one of these:
1.50(:))
1.51(upgrade to 2.0, then downgrade)
1.52(upgrade to 2.0, then downgrade)
2.0(downgrade to 1.50)

once u get to 1.50 then download Fastloader(iso loader) and download some isos' and thats it! (assuming you'll be getting a 1gb stick)

It's basically a Value Pack but it doesn't have a wrist strap, instead it has a USB cable, a stand for your psp and a 1gb stick already (not the crappy 32mb one).

If this pack came out earlier i definately woulda gotten it...damnit.

You can get one for around 50 on ebay.

As for MP3s, yeah it plays MP3s fine (as well as ATRAC3 files, which are as far a i can tell exactly the same quality as the original file but smaller). It also plays videos (need to convert them to MP4 though), you can store/view pictures on it (can't remember file support, i know jpg for sure though).

As for the 4gb HD, i heard the load times are terrible compared to sticks, and it gets fragmented, and apparently the only way to defrag it is to reformat.

I don't think you can tell the difference. I know the difference between teh first ones shipped and the 1.51/1.52 were that on the box it was 1001. Where as the 1.5 were 1000. This site is good for learning about upgrading and downgrading.

All the PSP's in stores are 2.0 or lower rght now... it IS possible to tell the difference before buying it...

If the letter is an A or no letter at all, its a 1.50...
A = 1.5
B = 1.51
C = 1.52

Etc.

Homebrew can only run on the earlier firmwares because Sony released new firmware to prevent homebrew :P

I bought a PSp yesterday and I was wondering how you put movies onto teh emory cards. I've tried encoding to mp4 and putting the file in MP_ROOT>MV001 (or something like that). It still didnt work. If anybody has an idea of what I could do it'd be great. I have version 2.00

Does the video not play? Or does it not show up in the Videos menu completely?

Remember, the videos go in

ms://MP_ROOT/100MNV01/

and the videos must be named M4Vxxxxx.MP4 (replace the x's with a number) for example...

M4V10001.MP4 would be the first video listed.
M4V10002.MP4 would be the 2nd.
M4V10003.MP4 would be the 3rd, etc.

You can NOT play downloaded PSP games on 2.0. Only 1.50 can play downloaded PSP games via ISO loaders. It's verrryy easy. You just download PSP games off torrent sites, (.iso files) and use UMDEmulator 0.8c on your PSP to load them.

And yes, from what I remember, you can play Fifa on a 1.50 PSP...

2. Well, 2.0 comes with the official Sony browser (which is nice), and lets you change your wallpaper (1.5 can do this with PSPersonalize)... nothing else too great...

3. Yeah 2.0 can be downgraded, only 2.0.

If you plan on running homemade games, emulators, and apps you want a 1.5 PSP...

If you have:

1.5 - your safe

1.51 - upgrade to 2.0 then downgrade to 1.5
1.52 - upgrade to 2.0 then downgrade to 1.5
2.0 - you can choose to stay, or downgrade to 1.5 (what I did)

Youcan download homebrew browsers for 1.5 and use them if you have 1.5, but the sony one would be better (2.0). homebrewing meansw people who make the programs and they're not official (my definition :lookaroun ). you can download games off the net. If your not a games person, pspvideo9 can convert your movies into mp4 format (psp).

Fanjita even released homebrew Tetris for 2.6 using the GTA exploit.

I was assuming roz2383 wanted to play ISO's, like most of the people who ask. Plus even while 2.0 can run homebrew, it's really messy. The eboot's are loaded from the Photo menu, not the Game menu, etc. Plus all the homebrew runs in a limited environment, you can't get kernel access like you could with 1.5. Homebrew on 1.5 is a bajillion times better than it is on 2.0 if you ask me... but yeah, you 2.0'ers have one thing I want... the official Sony browser. :P

I dl PQ (practical intelligence quotient) and when I use the emulator to open the file, it gets to a mixed pixel screen (blurry green, red, blue), and in teh middle is a square that says 'now loading'. Then, it shuts off. It didn't come with a nfo or readme either.

OMG, i got so scared, i used snestyl to load a smc file (mario) that I found on a torrent site (cant remember) and a blue screen appeared and there was a message "I regret to inform you that your psp has just crashed, shit happens" and there was a message and I restarted teh PSp. It works fine now, but im gonna delete the game.

Yeah Doom 2 works fine, but Doom 1 is missing the Help2 screen. No big deal.

All you have to do is start a new game or load your game before the Help2 is shown (or not shown in this case). Just open Doom 1 and start a game or load one really quickly to avoid this.

Put the WEB folder in the root of your memory stick, and Fired Up Browser.iso in the ISO folder for UMDemulator .8c. Use UMDemu .8c to load the ISO with System Menu, then pick the UMD icon.

Once the game loads, go to (I think it was) Extras, and then Downloads. The browser will then load.
