I've got an ite ultra ata/133 raid/ide controller board which i hooked up inside my case when i built my computer. There are 2 ide hard drives attached to it.

It seems to be working as after bootup the controller displays -
ite8212 atapi bios v1.7.1.51
please wait for ide scan
drive 0 : not detected
drive 1 : not detected
drive 2 : not detected
drive 3 : not detected

I know i have to install the driver
but if i follow the manual
the "found new hardware wizard" is for if you install the board AFTER windowsxp format/install
but the board was installed before format/windows install
via the manual the driver location is -
f:\pci_io\ite ata133\driver\win2k_xp (which i can find)
there is no installer there but there are these files -
iteraid.cat
iteraid.inf
iteraid.sys

Can i copy these files somewhere to make the controller work?
it would seem pretty stupid if i had to pull the board out before every format/install windowsxp

I only need to use the controller as a normal ide contoller.
so i would set it up as a "array for normal"

Any detailed help would be greatly appreciated.

Does the controller show up in Device Manager?
If so, you should be able to install the drivers from there.

First of all, the scan shows that there are no drives connected. In that mode, the card isn't going to be doing much for you.

Secondly, you only need the drivers at install time if your primary (system) drive is connected through the controller. If the purpose is to connect additional drives then you can safely leave installation of the drivers until after you have installed windows.

Finally, you can find a full set of drivers here (http://www.iteusa.com/software_download/software_download2.asp#IT8212%20ATA133%20Controller)

The device does not show up in device manager.
but in device manager i do have -
ide ata/atapi controllers - nvidia nforce4 parallel ata controller
I also have -
other devices - ? mass storage controller
? unknown device

The hard drives do not show up in the scan because the device is not installed yet.
The controller is only for additional drives NOT windows.
Windows is installed already.

Ok; i'll try the ITE driver website suggested by lynx.
The following driver appears correct -
IT8212F ATA133 RAID Controller
but i have 3 choices
1-Windows Driver (include AMD and Intel 64-bit) v1.7.2.4
2-Windows Driver & AP (for 32-bit) v1.7.2.4
3-Windows Driver & AP (for AMD and Intel 64-bit) v1.7.2.4

I'm running an Amd athlon 64-3000 under XP-32bit
I reckon number 1 for my system?, is that the correct one?
What does the AP mean in 2 & 3?
Since my board is v1.7.1.51 will this version v1.7.2.4 stuff it up?

Help!, Please!

I assume that:
1 is for all systems, but is driver only.
2 is for 32 bit systems, includes drivers and AP (raid utilities?)
3 is for 64 bit systems, includes drivers and AP (raid utilities?)

Personally I'd recommend the second option, but the third option is definitely NOT what you want.

It doesn't sound likely that the board version is 1.7.1.51 (hardware mods don't usually have release numbers like that) so I assume that's the version of the software you've currently got installed.

1.7.2.4 is the latest version of the drivers, which sounds as if it is probably a big step forward from what you've currently got.
