Now, now, be gentle and treat it with love. With a bit of love, I'm sure it will do just fine

Make sure you've got the latest firmware.

Mind you, to do that you're going to have to find out the actual model number.
Just like you will if you expect us to be able to help you.

"Something like that" isn't good enough when it comes to firmware.

The model number is almost certainly on the bottom of the router.
Still, if you can't be bothered I don't see why we should either.

Exactly.

Also note that he in fact never asked for help. He just made a statement that he wanted to throw it out the window.

Anyway, I think we are too helpful when people can't be bothered to ask questions clearly or post the make & model of the items involved.

Again you don't provide enough information.

The befsr41 has more than 5 lights. How did you find that number? Is it right on the router?

You also didn't say what you want from us.

Yea, I remember my old linksys router gave me all kinds of hell at first, but then I upgraded and firmware and boom, problems went away. It did burn up after 2 more years, so I use a newer model. Still a linksys, but it's a gigabyte one. Hopefully these hardrive will support faster transfer rates someday so I can get good use of the gigabyte speed. Fuck, why not just have network speed of 1gbs. Drool dammit!

Well I dont think you were the first 10000 poster unless your nick is also MUSCLEMAN... :)

Getting back to the point, why not invest in an OfficeConnect, never had a problem with mine. I use the 3com OfficeConnect ADSL wireless 3CWDR 100A 72 , for two webservers that I run on seperate computers. The wireless connection supports with ease 2000 users...

I had a linksys befsr41 for a few years. One day (2 weeks or so ago) I lost internet connection and my router just had a solid red light like it does when you first hook it up. It died. Seems there's nothing you can do. Good thing I have a linksys wireless router too.

The pic on the web site is V4, you've got V3.

Here (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?childpagename=US%2FLayout&packedargs=c%3DL_Download_C2%26cid%3D1115417109974%26sku%3D1115416832116&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper)'s the latest firmware. However, it seems to be lacking an installer, maybe you need to use the V1 or V4 installer but it isn't clear.

What firmware is there in it now? You can see this info at 192.168.1.1 : Setup section.

I just sorted out a brand new dial-up modem (a stopgap until they've got broadband) for someone. The drivers as provided by XP SP2 were dated 2002, the latest are May 2005. Never assume that new hardware has the latest firmware, or is supplied with the latest drivers.

For example, V4 of your router has been out since late 2004, how come you've got V3?

If you buy a new one, save the ol one for a good smash"in mate. Get a sledge hammer and bash the crap outta that junk heap...It'll feel like sex destroying the one thing that causes great anger.
