Why is firefox using so much memory.????

Here's a picture of my task manager and firefox seems to be using a fair bit of memory which i gather is why my computor has been a bit sluggish.

http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/8440/untitled1copy6rq.jpg

It also says there's 41 applications running as well. Do i need all them to be running.

Also i did a hijack this log and had a look at the hijackthis.de site but it didn't come up with anything un-toward.:(

So i'll post my log in this thread to see if you chaps could see anything.:01:

Dont really know too much about the FF problem, but I know for a fact that you don't need all those processes running. My lappy is slow, so I disabled all extra processes and currently have 13 processes running when win xp starts. But because you have ati graphics, it's a good idea to keep the ati graphics processes running.

Type the process name in google and see what each of them does. Chances are you don't even need half of your current processes

if i were you i would completly remove firefox and then try installing the new 1.5 again.

remember to backup your bookmarks somewhere then run the unistaller in the firefox folder. also remove any folder called mozilla in

C:\Documents and Settings\your username\application data

the above folder is hidden.

I'm using Opera ,fast very fast but seems to have have an issue with this site on a new install (posting takes for ever ) , FF 1.5 is flying on here .

Wonder why ? I have 29000 k one window open on FF But Opera is 15000k .
 Thought it might be a cache problem but don't think so .

@Efakes , I 'd just reinstall FF 1.5 and go from there .

About the running proceses kill the ATI shit , once your video is setup how you like it . Whats your startup menu like , must be a bitch . Use a simple program like System Mec, Regcleaner ,Tuneup utility , or even Ccleaner to see what you have running at startup . Msconfig is a pain in the ass ,you want to disable start items not delete them . Then see what your processes are . :)

Use the wintask process library via google, so just type in the process name that might look useless and get a description. Most likely you won't need half of your current processes.

Also he could check this site for info , not use the program so much as ask an expert from their site to explain better ?

How many Extensions are installed on firefox? Having 20+ could cause 200,000kb of used memory...depending on those extensions.

enoughfakefiles

I've only got 9 extensions running.

I've read a bit about the problem, and apparently there's a memory leakage problem with firefox. I fond a fix but it didn't work.

Wtf? My firefox only takes up 35mb. Maybe if you get more ram it'll reduce the amount of ram it uses up? Lol just a joke since firefox used to take up a lot more ram when I had 1 gig.

currently firefox has a huge memory leak and a fix won't be available until early '06. uninstalling/reinstalling firefox 1.5 will not help. extensions have nothing to do with it. currently my ff is using 30mb and on first start up it uses 24mb. after about 1 hour of use it's easily using 100mb. easiest fix is to just close ff and go back in. as for now that is.
