Number 2, little worse battery but a faster bigger hardrive, faster processor, etc. I vote number 2.

The Toshiba definitely looks the better deal. The Sony probably has the cd copy protection root kit pre-installed.

Just my 2 cents. Or in this case your 2 cents. :P

Wouldn't touch the Sony (any Sony product, actually*) with a bargepole.

Absolutely the most proprietary OS/drivers in existence and the world's worst customer support.

*Sony recently tried to charge us just for the bloody part number of a component they no longer support or provide...without the factory # there was no way to go online and see if anyone else might have this thing. Customer now has a perfectly good (well, presumably a perfectly good) Sony LCD monitor that is useless without the special power cord.
Which Sony no longer sells.
Or will even admit to ever making, apparently.

Screw 'em.

thnx everyone,
ya, after many googling, I decided to get the Toshiba, but another version:
this one

Toshiba Satellite Intel Pentium M 740 1.73GHz Laptop (M60-CD4)

better or worse than the first Toshiba choice?
this one is 2'' screen bigger, but has 20gb less and cost $100 more which sucks..

80 gigs is fine, just get a dvd-rw...

Better battery life.

DVD Super-Multi double layer drive in which you can save or view all of your filesI guess that means it already has a DVD-RW drive.

Sounds well worth the extra $100

well if your gonna use it for gaming i would suggest one with a graphics card but if its for normal use the toshiba is perfect.

well im not a heavy gamer so the video card will be good enough..

but one question, how does a laptop get internet connection?
I have a linksys wireless router at home, it that all I need?

All the laptops you've shown have wireless networking, so they should be able to connect to your linksys wireless router without any problems.

yes but i think you should protect your self by locking it so that your neighbours wont be freeloading on you because it will make your connection speeds slower too.(Or you could just freeload on them if they have an open wireless netowrk :) )
