tesco

Yes I did some reading up on this as I ordered a sata-300(sata2) hard drive and a sata-150(sata) motherboard, and it turns out they are backwards compatible. :)

oh, and it looks like I missed something :blushing:

SecureConnect - provides a 500 percent stronger cable-to-drive connection than first-generation SATA hard drives and cables. Also ensures backward compatibility with legacy SATA cables and backplanes.

that was the info I was looking for right?

yes, but I don't have a credit card
and even if I did, to get it here in, like, a day,
would probably end up being about the same price :P

And already you're kvetching?
Sheesh.

Does you're motherboard even support SATA 2?

BTW, get your RAID array up and running yet?
Well, didya?
Hurry, hurry.
SATA 3 is just around the corner, pretty soon you'll be so far from the cutting edge that you won't even see the blood.

I am posting now, from the raid, althought I had some problems, like not knowing how to set up raid and whatnot, and then for some reason it kept crying grub error, but alas it booted. I need to find a bench mark tool now.

Gotcha.

Know exactly how you feel, btw.

Took me all of 2 seconds to come up with that free, easy, widely recognized hdd benchmark.
Your search was much easier I'm sure.

Well don't wear yourself out.

Let's see...new Raptors, first RAID array...naw, nuthin to get excited bout here.
Surely you are just a teensey, eeentsie bit curious how they're working?

Or does Linux suck that out of you?

Curiously, my pack of free Ubuntu distros arrived a few weeks ago.
I tried the "Run from the disk" version for a while.
I must credit it for recognizing all my hardware and going right to the internet.
The desktop was retarded and I'm too lazy to explore it.

See man, linux isn't that bad these days, it isn't a nerdy black screen white text hacker thing anymore, there are clear alternitives to windows, I use fedora core 4 comes prepacked with gaim, and xchat, firefox, connects to the interenet automatically, its awesome.

I might try Ubuntu some time soon.

I was very impressed with the installation of the MandrakeLinux 10.1, I felt sure something had gone wrong. From putting the first cd in the drive to up-and-runnning in under 4 minutes.

I got them from a Ubuntu meeting they held at a hotel in the city.

I saw a link somewhere and followed it to a site and ordered kits.
Got like 5 Macs, ten 32 and five 64bit sets.
Free shipping even.
Took about a month to show up, but hey, it was free.

The funniest thing is the bit on the sleeve encouraging you to make copies and give it away.
Somewhat different than the doom & gloom warnings from MS....

I'll have the latest version myself by this evening. Hopefully it will have a better desktop than Mandriva 10.1, but I suspect Mandriva 2006 has a better desktop too.

Yup.

Ubuntu is Software Libre. You are legally entitled and encouraged to copy, share and redistribute this CD for yourself and your friends. Share the spirit of Ubuntu!

I found that site too (shipit something), but I don't see the need since it will only take a couple of hours to download the ones I want anyway, about 10 minutes and I'll have the first disk.
