It's a quote from Terry Pratchett. It's dog Latin for 'How much is that doggy in the window?'

You're nothing but a clint

Without looking, what was Lord Vetinari's original profession / or trade

Assassin.
Read 'Night Watch' for more about that...

You didn't answer my question, though.

The artist new their faces well
The husbands of his lady friends
His creditors and counsellors.

Sorry don't know the answer to your question, other than it was an homage to Dirty Harry, best guess would be one of the Watch. Doesn't sound like something Vimes would say. No sorry can't help you there.

I generally only read the discworld books once, very occasionally a couple of times so I am familiar without being obsessed. The good lady gets me the newest one in hardback on release so I have them all. Usually have them read within a couple of days. Liked the Night Watch a lot.

I'm a big fan of DEATH. Very much misjudged chap.

H2G2 however, that is close to being an obsession. (forgive spelling cant be arsed). Books, audio books, radio shows, tv program. Love it all.

Good guess. It is the motto of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch.
Fred Colon claims that it means 'To Serve and Protect'.

You are only lucky sonofagun - I always have to borrow my mume ande dade's... :(

I'm a big fan of DEATH.
I WOULD AGREE. WHAT A FINE CHAP.

I was going to say Nobby - Bar Steward.

I , or at least the Good Lady, am currently awaiting the full 5 books of the trilogy, from the USA. It is a quality leather bound set with the Hitch-Hikers Guide signed by DNA.

I won't tell you how much it cost, but it's a present for her 42nd birthday. She did spend a night with the great man wining and dining, in company I hasten to add. If you're interested I'll tell you a wee story about that, a true one.

aaaah, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

should be HHG2tG, that would make more sense...

I know a story about Douglas Adams.

He was dining with some friends and lots of people kept coming up to him and asking for autographs. Then a waiter came up and said "Excuse me sir, are you Douglas Adams?"

Douglas smiled and took out his pen before turning and saying "So who should I write it to?"

The waiter frowned and said "I don't want your signature, sir - I was told to inform you that you left the lights on in your car!"
