Santa

I have met many western travellers who where "Doing" Europe (mostly accompanied with a J.Keroak novel).
My ponder of this fine evening is
Have you "Done" Europe?
and
so
How was it?

For several years I spent time in Europe during racing season.

It's almost as good as Disneyland what with the shorter lines and all.

I spent 14 days in France and I had the time of my life. The majority of the time I spent in Paris exploring the city. I also took trips to Versailles, Giverny to see the works of Claude Monet to see where he lived and painted, and also to the Normandy coast where the landing beaches were for WWII.

I meet lots of great people while there. One night my sister and I took a boat tour of the Seine River where I meet a guy from Ireland and we proceeded to get drunk as hell. I think I can honestly say that I’ve never heard the F bomb so many times in one night. We had a blast.

I have many great memories from that trip but one of my favorites is sitting in a little café along the Champs Elysses and having a glass a wine just soaking it all in. We sat there from quite some time just enjoying all of the surroundings.

An American Republican in France and I loved every second.

I went to Germany and Switzerland a few years back. A lot of the Germans were quite snooty, but the Swiss were nothing short of wonderful. The landscape, Zermatt, etc. was breath-taking. I would not go back to Germany if I revisited that part of the world.

I did get a kick out of everyone recognizing my Texas accent and asking if I drove a "pick-up truck", had horses, and lived on a ranch. They also wondered if Texas had paved roads.

After about the fifth time I was asked these questions, I decided I would let them have their fantasy. :lookaroun

Maybe we could invent something...call it say, tourism...and we'll come over there and slather our cash around and ya'll can charm us with your Old World ways and dirndls and such.
Then we'll buy up all your old stuff, ship it to our castles in California and laze around on the beach.

Thanks for highlighting exactly why you are stereotyping - you were not parodying Peerzy - who is the only member who seriously thinks Americans are fucking stupid - since he never qualifies his statements with 'I mean your govt'.

Others do that, myself included probably - Rat Faced definitely, when confronted with a particular American whining about how we're always picking on them when all we're doing is bashing the foreign policy, or whatever.

So, at the very least you were generalising UK FST users' attitude to Americans, at worst you were stereotyping a nation. As I say, it's ironic since it's the very thing you were attempting to deride :smilie4:
