The Canaries as expected is a tourist suction hole, it is a monster - and your right about Playa Ingles what a mess - tourists go to see tourists?
We were visiting a friend who lives in Puerto Mogan so we didn't get the sore ass feeling - there are some great things there if you avoid the dollar game -

Absurd country - ruled by spain, built up by South Americans, survives on tourism, and the harbour, nothing is supposed to grow on it

-abusing the tourist machine is great - walking into 5star hotels with a baby is easy and using their pools eating there food etc etc is a game in itself.
-The inland is more authentic - gorgeous
-Food brilliant if you go to the right places
-Wind conditions for surfing are as predicted excellent and i even met some pro's and surfed with them:01:

-It funny but also rediculous to watch locals fuk tourists over - bus drivers are the worst - tourist gets on "im going to peurto rico" - bus driver says "no puerto rico" tourist gets off - bs drives to puerto rico. another bus driver only let 5 tourists on at a time no more - the bus was quarter full...they dont need to care.
-many sailors end up in peurto mogan and drink their lives away.
-it was great to see my friend how is doing much better there than here:01:

Weirdest thing i saw was the "weigh yourself machines" all along many of the "boulevards" - is a suggestion from the spanish government to the obese tourists?
