It's the new (pre)N standard, but I was only using a wireless g connection from me PC.

I was was getting speeds in excess of 1000 KB/s on usenet ce soir, seriously maxing out the connection. It peaked at just over 1200 KB/s.

I've seen a number of the routers with MIMO.

I'm waiting for 802.11n before I upgrade.

Did you have problems after ntl upgraded your speed? I got disconnected every few mins after the upgrade for the first few days, mainly when someone browsed my files on the soulseek. Took several days of speaking to a stupid cow over the phone(the girlfriend has her uses) before they agreed to send a man out and give me half price internet for 3 months.

Not every few minutes, but we did have probs after the upgrade. It seemed to be when I used usenet and bittorrent fastly, at the same time.

I think they may have put the upgrade in place before they had the infrastructure / servers to cope with it.

At about the same time two of our cable boxes kind of died, so we got a chap out to replace them, which was nice.

The upgrade is the main reason I got the new router, to take advantage of the new speeds. What with me dowloading like a mentalist and four other computery things using the interweb it seemed like a good idea.

Mine is secure, 64bit WEP. It can be much more secure but I figured that would be plenty.

However there are a couple of others within range which aren't:naughty:

I don't really know why people don't secure them, it's a pice of pish to set up.

Whilst typing this I realized I could probably access their wireless networks, switch security on (they wouldn't know the encryption key), set up a password for accessing the router settings and wait for them to spend a fortune on premium rate calls to technical support.

But that wouldn't be nice, would it fromage.

192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 would normally do it.

it seemed to create an alternate locked profile thing but kept another non-secure one running anyway:dabs:

I'm going to try now, but I keep having problems with SS.

It seems to get half way thro' loading up then crash. It might be to do with the unpossible amount of data.

I just sort of got annoyed with trying to access it and gave up.

It should be dead easy.

Switch on security and generate a key.

Then tell the computery things what the key is.

Proper Bo
12-20-2005, 11:14 AM
did that, and it worked...except it still had another profile type thing running without a password, even when i set it to have one:dabs:

Have you tried resetting it to factory settings, to go back to it's "out of the box" state. Then switching on security from there.

Security should be either on or off, you shouldn't really be able to have it in two states at the same time.

We are talking about encryption here aren't we, as opposed to the administrators password for changing the router's settings.

Actually I agree with you that some knucklehead would call tech support rather than giving it the hard reset. However, I don't know about the "fortune" in tech support calls though. The call would last all of 10 seconds....or should I say, "should".

Either way, glad I could 'elp oot.

Bet it wouldn't, at £1/minute ($27). If some geptard phoned they would keep them on for a good wee time before saying "press a needle into the wee hole marked reset"

Anyway, on some routers which are secure encrypted and password protected the hard reset button won't work. Before you tell me that's pish, it isn't, I've seen it. You can get round it, but just pressing the hard reset won't work.

Hardware thread :dabs:

I've been told by my ISP that to upgrade to a 2meg line, I have to get a router instead of this modem because it can only handle a 1024 connection.

It's free and all but making hardware changes is just asking for trouble.

Indeed, but I haven't lost my mind recently, so why would I do such a stupid thing.

However if you think it's a good idea please feel free to take your own advice.

The Sveasoft firmware adds more features than I care to list, however buy uploading this firmware you can increase your power boost up to 300% from stock firmware!

I'm going to check that out. That Linksys is probably super low ($) right now.

I installed Ninja Gaiden but wanna wait 'till I get the Black version to play it.
The same goes for Fable.

I heard the The Lost Chapters is on Xbox now.

My Blockbuster has neither though.

Another game you should definitely check out is Stubbs The Zombie.

You are actually the villain with regenerative powers and each and every single person's brains you eat or people you slash to death fight on your side.

Fucking amazing game....slightly repetitive but they are on to something. I'm at the last boss now. The game's a little on the short side.

I've been getting a game every day.

The last ones I got were:

Metal Slug 4 & 5
Brother's In Arms: Road To Hill 30

I have about 78 games now and about 38 GB left.

I need to buy that 300 gb drive soon (maybe 400) so I can back up all this shit.
I'll probably chill out after my Game Pass runs out on Jan 12. Besides that, BB doesn't have the super new stuff like Brother's In Arms: Earned In Blood.

I don't know if you have an HDTV but my Xbox upconverts my DVDs to 1080i. I still need to finish Batman Begins (and a host of other movies).

What dash do you have btw and how did you get your modded Xbox?

Just found the G version at Best Buy for $70 and $30 in mail in rebates.

I have to order by the 24th though. I might wait. They always have those rebates. I got my D-Link router for $20 after rebates.
