hello

Minimum Hardware
800 MHz Intel Pentium III or 800 MHz AMD Athlon or 1.2GHz Intel Celeron or 1.2 GHz AMD Duron processor
128 MB of RAM
8 speed CD / DVD drive
915 MB of free hard disk space
(+ 635 MB if video card does NOT support DirectX Texture Compression)
32 MB video card with DirectX 9.0 compatible drivers ("GeForce" or better)
Sound Card with DirectX 9.0 compatible drivers Keyboard & Mouse

those are the min. requ. for vice city for pc and my comp meets the requirments but my video card is exactly 32mb vid card so i wanted to know if this will degrade the quality of the game and slow it down?

thanks.

There are "minimum specs" and there is "recommended specs"

Intel P4 or AMD XP CPU
256[+]mb ram
1.55GB free

64[+]mb video card with DirectX compatible drivers
"GeForce3 / Radeon8500" or better with DirectX Texture compression

I think you might have a "choppy" ride :( ;)

My system annihilates the min. and recommended specs for GTA3 and it still sometimes runs slowly!

try turning off trails in the options menu. this gave my system another 10 fps
lol

johnnytightlips2
04-21-2003, 07:16 PM
yeah i heard that trails option slows down the game so if i turn it off it would boost up the game.

I have a p4 1.7ghz, 512mb, 80gb hard drive 32mb tnt2. Thats the only thing! The card and I cant get a new card cuz My parents got me an xbox! But I hope it will run, whens it up for download?

I'm still trying to figure this out. Both GTA3 and Vice City were originally made for PS2, right? So shouldn't they both have the same system requirements? And I think the PS2 only has like a 233Mhz CPU, so they should both run fine on almost any PC! But for some strange reason, they don't.

(btw I'm already searching for a CPU Upgrade for my old 550 Mhz PIII ;) )

johnnytightlips2

see the diffrence between vice city and gta3 is that vice city uses directx 9 and 32bit graphics. the games has improved graphical wise so the comp power have to be boosted up.

amphoteric88
04-21-2003, 08:11 PM
it's the quality of the graphics chip in the ps2, not the internal clock that determines it's graphical power. and the graphics chip is pretty good, not as powerful as some other consoles at the moment (well, basically everything), but still very good

johnnytightlips2
04-21-2003, 09:47 PM
actually i think xbox's chip is better than ps2 just a little bit but ps2 is still the best.

Doesn't Xbox use Nvidia graphics? I think that's a little better than whatever PS2 uses. Not sure though. Anyway, my point was if both games played equally well on PS2, shouldn't they both play on my computer? One does and one doesn't, that makes no sense.

Salim

Well, would it run on my pc? I know the card is bad but gta3 ran fine.

Ps2 runs games way better than computer anyday.

Computers werent designed like consoles .
computers dont render the graphics the same as consoles do.
Its a design flaw.

Ive read about this before in pc world and pc magazine.
I wish i could remember the issue because I dont remember the details very well of why computers cant run games the same way consoles do.

sorry but thats roughly why

amphoteric88

the xbox has a better spec than the ps2. however, it's not the raw system spec, but how well the developers learn to exploit the technology. if you compare the early psx games to games like gran turismo 2, which came out at the end of the psx's life, you'll see a huge improvement. ps2, xbox and gamecube games will improve in terms of graphics as the develpoers learn more

vegeta

according to me to play vice city without errors then u should have:

2 ghz MHz Intel Pentium IV
128 MB of RAM
52 speed CD / DVD drive
1.5 GB of free hard disk space(space also matters in playing if there is less space then ur game may run slow.it happiened with me in gta3 :P )
(+ 635 MB if video card does NOT support DirectX Texture Compression)
32 MB video card with DirectX 9.0 compatible drivers(not the test version as released now :P ) ("GeForce" or navida tnt2)
Sound Card compatible drivers Keyboard & Mouse

NOTE:this were the requirments to run vice city without any problems not the minimum requirments ^_^

Playing Vice City with 32MB video card isn't the issue. Playing it smoothly is ;) The only way you "might" get smooth play with a lower-end card is to strip all the settings (like suggested earlier, with "trails dissable"). But if you do that, wouldn't it be like playing GTA3 (but with different missions)? Why not take the money you would've spent buying Vice City into a "new vid-card fund", and wait for VC to come out on kazaa? If the "recommended specs" call for a 64[+]MB vid-card, it wont be long until games recommend a 128MB card for....standard play :P...so why wait? :D

Salim

I have a 32mb tnt2 and gta3 ran great! Without trails and every thing on high!

KANADIANborn
04-23-2003, 03:09 AM
I played GTA3 with a 32meg'r with "little to no" jerkiness, but this is Vice City we're talking about here. ;)

(Taken from "MAIN>FEATURES" of the Vice City site (http://www.rockstargames.com/vicecity/pc/index.htm))

"Optimized Graphics"
Pushed to the limit to take advantage of the latest PC hardware. With massive viewable distances, texture resolutions bumped up from 32-colours to 32-bit colours with billions of shades and games resolutions to scale as high as your monitor can support.

If one has to turn all the extras off just to get a game to run...smoothly, maybe getting a newer vid-card would the wisest piece of advice ever given... B)

Why would I want to spend $300 for a PS2 and GTA:VC, when I could spend $60 and get it for PC?
Besides, look at all the mods for GTA3 now ( maps, caps, textures/buildings, missions, clothing ). Can you do that with a console system? :D

04-24-2003, 01:09 AM
I just hope it works! I will likey download it!

johnnytightlips2
04-24-2003, 01:46 AM
thats just stupid pc is the best and the games are far more better for example vice city has 32bit graphics on the pc, u can import ur own mp3s on to the game, save the replays and send it to a friend via email. also think of all the third party and user mods that going to be developed. the settings of the games could be altered for example car speeds, colors, traction, and brake systems.

nahan
04-24-2003, 01:58 AM
Question is if you have never played vice city yet ,was it worth the wait ?

And what about when sin city comes out will it be worth waiting again ?

Quite frankly I think not, it may have some mods and small changes but overall id rather not wait any longer than i have to.Vice city has been out for so long now

Yeah the PS2 doesn't have the fastest processor, but it's got an amazing graphics card. Remember when you're playing a game on you PC you're not just running the game, you're running Windows and probably a virus checker and firewall all at the same time, it all adds up.

Damn it i dont think i can play it at school... this piece of shit is only a 566mhz celeron....who the hell uses celeron... god awfull....

hopefully both my computers at home should play it i got a P3 700 and a P4 2.67ghz....i may need a new graphic card for the p3 700 any suggestions ...something cheap is always good???

johnnytightlips2

i suggest getting a geforce 2 64mb card cuz its cheap and u can play vice city on it.

KANADIANborn
04-26-2003, 01:38 AM
Who said it was already out?

In regards to video card selection. Try to get a 128MB version of what ever you choose. There's no point buying a card that "just meets" the recommended requirements of todays games. I bought myself a Radeon9kPro w/128MB for under $200 CDN (months ago) and am enjoying it very much :D

Nightwolf
04-26-2003, 05:42 AM
Those new Geforce FX cards are cheap as hell, but are they worth it?

johnnytightlips2
04-26-2003, 12:21 PM
they're cheap on the internet but not in stores and the fx cards are good but radeon 9800 does better and they're both the same price so its good to buy radeon 9800.

Salim

i mean, all it really is is someone who runs over people, shoots people, kills people with baseball bats, kills people with screwdrivers....

ok, i retract this comment :D
