I'm close to hitting 18 and i've been smoking cigarettes since 14, and just wondering, to cigarette smokers, when did you guys start? Are you even really addicted? I've been on and off with it. I'm not hooked on it. Don't see the big deal how people say its super addicting.

I gave up about 7 years ago. I still consider myself addicted, tho' to be fair I had been smoking for about 20 years.

I gave up about 6 years after serving a good 10 years smoking. You say that it's not that addictive. Try giving up then :01:

I am absolutely addicted, and I say to you seriously..stop now, please. I myself have several specialist appointments in the coming weeks, and I can tell you that I am being checked for some rather serious things, partially because of the smoking..stop now, cause you sure as shit don't want to deal with the things I am right now.

Indeed. I dont remember when I started smoking (7th or 8th grade) and "quit" twice. Once for 6 months and once for a little under a year. Lord only knows why I started up each time. Oh wait.... it's bc I thought "oh I can smoke and not start up the habit again"<------BAD BAD BAD BAD WRONG.
As EFF said, you never stop wanting one, and JPaul is smart.... considering himself an addict still... I no longer believe in "social smoking" lol, as i now find myself with a pack+ a day habit. It's anasty thing, and if it really is that easy for you to stop, then do so, bc at some point it WONT be as easy.

No regrets currently, but you will have them sooner or later.

Maybe when Fre is sitting by your bedside when the emphysema gets too bad for you to walk. Or when she is pushing you in the wheelchair when you lose a leg.

I've seen both, very close up. Trust me mate, you will have regrets then.

Stop smoking, please, it's never too late to do you good.

You have so much determination in other areas, Ruthe. The grades you made last semester prove that.

I am sending all optimistic thoughts and any spare strength I can your way. I know it is scary. A hug to you.

I smoke Marijuana, is it a big difference from smoking ciggarettes? My medical teacher told me, Marijuana builds up more tar in your lungs.

Thanks, everyone. I hope all goes well too! I just saw the how I stopped thread..I stopped once for 2 years, and once for 3 years. Think I'd better do it permanently..like today. Yes, please feel free to mention me to the big guy.

Like Oscar Wilde (I think) said, stopping smoking is easy, I've done it hundreds of times.

Feck if you've given up for years at a time you know you can do it permanently. Stop it before it stops you mate.

Cigarettes are the most insidious habit...I was ordered to quit by my cardiologist just after angioplasty.

I don't recommend that method, but JP's sounds okay-don't use half-measures (just smoking outside, etc.) because they don't work.

Period.

I quit cold-turkey, but I was, ah...incentivized.

Best to you, ruthie, on your odyssey; keep yer chin up and prayers are on the way. :)

Why were you smoking just after angioplasty, are you a mental or something.

I'm surprised she just told you to put it out, I would have punched you in the pie-hole.

Technically, I'd already stopped; the day before, in fact.

The cardiologist reinforced my decision, and very effectively, too.

The gist of all of it was:

You must do all of these things (diet, drink, exercise, etc., on and on for 30 minutes) for a healthy heart, but none of that means the least unless you quit smoking.

I was never more than a pack, pack-and-a-half per-day smoker, though for 28 years.

Oh Gotcha, when you said "just after angioplasty" I thought you meant literally just after they were finished.

Is it better to be subtle and not understood than to never be subtle at all?
