- Dual core if you can.
- No need for 3 1/2 floppy, but since they're cheap....it's your money
- OS should be Windows XP Pro, Home is teh sux

I've got the same motherboard, but the model down from it (K8N NEO4-F) and am happy with it. Has eveyrthing I need.
Compare the two boards and see if the extra features are really worth the extra price...

The board also has 7.1 channel sound onboard, so dump the sound card for now until you try the onbaord sound...if you really dont like it you can always order that card later on.

Dump the dvd-rom drive and just go for the burner.

Alrite, 1500$ is really my limit so I wont be getting a 7800, nor a X2 (mabye 6 months- a year down the road)

Is the X850 any good? is it really worth 300$ CAD? And I guess Ill save 70$ and dump the 7.1, but I dont want any lag. Would trading the sound card for another stick of 512 do me good?

Why did you change a reasonable case and PSU for a pile of crap? Ok, your original case was possibly a little pricey (depending on taste) but the PSU was about right.

The one you've chosen now is at the rock bottom end of the scale. I have to query how long it is on average until the PSU fails in those things. Ok, you'd get a new PSU, but you'll find you aren't covered for the consequential loss of your other parts.

If you want a cheap case, that's ok, but dump the crap included psu and get a decent one.

Alrite, sorry I dont know these things lol. Ill go back and up my price too 1600$ to get the good PSU

Besides that, anything else?

i dont think x850xt has pixel shader 3.0. Get a 7800gt, it'll last you much longer. Also eVGA is shipping me a free copy of quake 4, plus eVGA comes with life time warranty :D . Oh and yeah, you need atleast a 450w power supply to run it. I recommmend an antec smartpower 2.0 500w powersupply for 70$. I really wouldnt recommend an amd 3500. amd 3000 can easily be overclocked to the performance of the 3500, so you'd be saving yourself some good money...

vid card i recommend.

I wont be ordering online because I do not own a credit card, I will be going to this place:

www.cty.ca

EDIT: Woha, theres no way I can afford a 7800GT, I think I will stick with my curent card for now, and upgrade if needed down the road. As long as I have a good mobo I'm happy.

The Venice is Dual Core.

not.
I have a Venice.
90nm single core.
of course I would be more than willing to sell it off to you as an X2. :shifty:

Manchester, Toledo, those are duals.

not a bad card at all, you should be OK with it

personally, I'm tired of all this nVidia fanboy shit
I fell for it once, with the 6600GT, big fuckin mistake

get what you can for now, the X850 should be fine, and,
later if you want to go heavier on gfx,
well by then the X1800 will be further along in development,
then you can look at high end cards from both ATi and nVidia,
and decide what suits you best

-edit- and good deal on dumping the sound card
the Audigy2 is fucking shitty, I speak from experience
TBO, I really think my onboard sound was better than this POS Audigy2
(I think I posted that same opinion in another thread)
I need to uninstall it and go shoot it :P

So you guys think this system will run BF2 at highest settings lag free? (system lag, crappy 1mb connection :P)

never played BF2 :P
but I do believe that an X850XT should handle it fine

all I know is this 6600GT still struggles on feckin C&C Generals,
w/ a 3500+ Venice, 1GB dual channel, low latency Patriot RAM,
the vid card has to be the fuckin bottleneck

It's surprising how many people don't realise the extra sound quality that has been built in to current games, so they expect the same old low quality audio codecs to provide the same performance. When that doesn't happen they blame the graphics card, and finally realise something else is the cause (or give up in disgust) after the 3rd graphics card doesn't solve their problem.

ok......got a proposal for you.....
you send me anything X700 Pro or better and I'll prove it :P

oh btw, yes the 6600GT sucks even with a sound card, which happens to suck as well
Audigy2...pfffft....nVidia's onboard sounds better

and before yer high horse carries you off too far....
I've tried this POS with and without fastwrites enabled,
with and without overclocking,
with and without other services running,
tried about everything under the sun, profiles, BIOS settings, different drivers, you name it

bottom line IMO, it just doesn't live up to the hype
and it was nicknamed the Doom3 card? it's laughable
I give the 6600GT and Radeon 9200 about the same score
