I can burn full 4gig DVDs no problem and they work fine, it's authoring that's the problem.

I use WINAVI to convert to VOB, TMPGEnc to author and Nero to burn. It burns fine and does actually play, it's just that it stutters all the way through, it doesn't play smoothly like it should.

I've also tried burning with TMPGEnc and get the same results.

My burner is an LG GSA-4167BRL 16X Dual Layer Dual Format DVD ± RW and the disks I'm using are maxell DVD+RW's.

Any ideas?

Try burning at a lower speed.

This will "burn" the data deeper into the media's substrate which will make it more readable by your home DVD player and may solve your problem.

Hmm I have an idea, well actually two.

1) watch the vob file you created with WinAvi and make sure it plays fine.

2) when authoriing the dvd, make an iso file of it also.

Then open the iso file w/ deamon tools or a drive emulation program. Then make sure that iso plays just fine.

If it doesn't, then your problem is not the conversion into dvd spec, but the burning part.
