a friend of mine has a Packard Bell (i Medio 2000 D RW) (yuck) with an MS 6511 ver:1 mobo

this thing beeps 3 times when it boots and according to BiosCentral (http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/amibeep.htm) that means that theres a Base 64K memory failure.........

now what does this mean? does this mean the memory of the bios is messed up, or just the regular RAM, or...................?

Those beep codes are pretty old and may not apply to that motherboard. They certainly won't apply if it doesn't have an AMI bios.

Even if it's got AMI bios, a number of things could cause that problem, such as the memory itself. Try reseating the ram before you do anything else. If there's more than one memory stick try it with each stick on it's own in turn. If you've got a spare compatible memory stick try that too.

I've seen a faulty CPU cause something similar to this.
