I used to use mobilemeter (http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Oakland/8259/) (the homepage is in japanese, but they translated it and the program, so no worries)for my old laptop. It doesn't use much ressources and it's just an .exe file, without any need for installing.
