I think I should shoot it........
I expected a little more out of the burst rates
it's on it's own IDE channel ffs, or am I expecting too much?
and the bastard wouldn't even bench on Madden '06
maybe a deal with SafeDisc4? or a combo of SD4/HP?

That's a benchmark of an Audio CD.

I'll do a test now. Back soon...

Edit: I'm back.

My results:

Well my Lite-On has some pretty good numbers I suppose. Though I can't be sure as I'm not 100% sure of all that I'm looking at there...

However, I'm sure it's time to chuck this Sony DVD-Rom down the hall and buy another one.

just picked up one of these:

we'll see how it goes
if this one runs shitty,
then I'm just gonna take the plunge and get a Plextor

Why don't you get the NEC? We've been recommending it for quite some time.

yeah, I know, and had considered it, but.....
my best results in the past had been with a Liteon
(CDRW, not DVDRW, but I guess I just have to try it)

the HP is a re-badged NEC (2500a)
maybe that fact made my wary of getting another?

I do think though that HP fucked it up in one way or another,
so I can't really say that I blame NEC

and....I will be buying another RW,
perhaps it will be the 3550, unless the Liteon really impresses me,
or I have oodles of cash to spare for a Plextor :shifty:

here's the Liteon, fresh out of the box....

btw, anyone have a clue as to why my IDE channels read wrong?
channels 1:2 and 1:3? what the hell? should be 1:0 and 1:1
I'm thinking it's because of old virtual drives, but that's just a guess.....
