Start with the wedge again. Tbh, you won't forget something like that. That would be like forgetting to ride a bike or swim.

I was a fearless skier when I was younger. Now I could less. Last time I skied it was about 5 years ago on my timeshare in southern New York and was still decent.

And yes motherfucker I was bored. Piss off. :snooty:

I spent 2 glorious weeks in Canadia in 2001 skiing, and that was the last time I went. Once you've skied there, going back to the Alps just doesn't cut it any more. The powder is so much better. Unfortunately, it costs so much more to get there :(

I also used to love ice-skating, I never was any good, just managing to keep my balance while hurtling round a rink as fast as possible... we used to catch the train to Nottingham; they've got an excellent rink there.

I might watch some of the winter olympics, but I don't even know what sort of TV coverage the BBC gives them any more. I mean, Eddie the Eagle isn't doing the ski-jump anymore is he? :dabs:

It sucks how the AMericans are the best at almost every sport in the olympics. Even in swimming that phelps guy beat the australians.

my favourite sport in the winter olympics, is the speed skating.

One thing people forget is that the US is a huge country so the pool to pick the best in our given country is bigger.

We didn't have that in the last Olympics and World Championships for basketball.

If Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Shaq, etc. had played it'd have been no contest.

Kobe is playing in 2008 (among other elite players). Our basketball program will never take that hit again.

I think I'll watch some hockey atleast.

There was a Total Fuckup in Finland some years back,
finnish skiers won some medals but whoopsidoo on the test the cup
melted of teh pish. Gettin caught Big Time.

Now they got some "scandals" about rigged football games
in our national league and im thinkin, whats next?

Personally, I think there's a lot of money to be saved in allowing teh steroids.
It could be teh funneh watching how absurd it could be.

German biathlete Michael Greis won the opening gold medal of the Turin Winter Olympics after a near-perfect performance in the men's 20-kilometre individual race on Saturday. The 29-year-old missed just one of his 20 targets on the shooting range to clinch his first Olympic title with a combined time of 54 minutes 23.0 seconds. Norwegian five-time Olympic champion Ole Einar Bjorndalen had to settle for second place, 16 seconds behind Greis, after missing a target in each of his first two shooting sessions.

This is subjective bullshit.

The USA had a flawless performance in the figure skating pairs and did some quadruple throw shit never done in the history of the Winter Games then...

Two Chinese pairs skate. Neither were together with their spins (out of sync) and the female of one pair even made a mistake on her landing and had to brace her hands against the ground so as not to fall.

Both Chinese pairs got better scores.

From Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel:

Try not to point out that something's not really a sport if a pseudoathlete waits in what's called a kiss and cry area while some panel of subjective judges decides who won.
From PTI:

Okay, let me offer up last night's Olympic Paisrs Free Skate as exhibit A in the case against figure skating as a real sport. Half of the pair of Zhang and Zhang suffered a nasty spill while attempted an unprecedented throw quad salka (sp?). Zhang struggled off the ice, they took a few minutes, probably had a frappucino, talked with the coaches, then asked to resume. Not only did the referee allow all this junk but Zhang and Zhang then won the silver medal. Tony, how fraudulent can you get?

So I would say it's a Zhang Thang that you wouldn't understand. There are certain sports that where they build in downtime, rest time or injury time like in tennis.

Like golf, between rounds...not in the same skate.

Yes, it does seem to me that if you are out on the ice and you suffer this kind of injury..THAT'S IT...the program is over. You get up right away, you keep skating or you quit.

That's what's happened before. We've seen people have to end their programs before.

Yes, I don't think you can leave the field of play and uh come back when you want.....and then get a silver medal.

Have and ice tea. Have a nap. I mean come on. It's fixed. It's exhibition. It is not sport, Tony. It's just scandalous. The whole thing is a fraud.

It's athletics but it's a performance.

Excellent we agree.

I'd have guessed that was your mind-set after your initial thread followed by the Gumbel quote.

Well see that's where you're manufactured outrage with the "Bryant Gumbel is your man" and "you just called me a racist" stuff came into play.

Post 13 in this thread already spoke to what you refer so there was no revelation.

Actually, with all Winter Olympics and part of the Summer, many will catch something while simply channel surfing. This genuine interest has not been "developed". I bet Skizo even caught some.

Of course whites can make the accusation.

Hell there was a white person saying he was accused of being racist when there was no such accusation.

I think this is the second time now from the same person.

Maybe he wants to be called a racist so the outrage won't seem so manufactured.

Do you think Jesse and the Rev. Al share your opinion?

So there's talk of instituting a mercy rule due to the Canadian women's hockey team. :P And the men's won 7-2 over Italy.

One of the fellows from the Ukraine was knocked unconscious on the two-man luge. It was a particularly spectacular crash. Haven't heard if he's okay though...just saw the run.

Yeah I see a Canada/USA race for the gold. 16-0 12-0 and 6-0 5-0

Canada will probably beat us but you never know.:shifty:

Can't count out the Scandinavian team either.

I've really been enjoying the curling, both men's and women's.

Maybe because I'm a pool player?

I'm seeing more depth of strategy the more I watch, and by the time the games are over, I'll know next to nothing, rather than nothing at all, at all. :)

These are the secret distractions behind Dale Begg-Smith's gold medal fairytale.

When 21-year-old IT millionaire Begg-Smith won gold in the men's freestyle moguls at Torino 2006 yesterday, he became only Australia's third Olympic Winter Games gold medallist and fifth medal winner overall.

But along with the celebrations and kudos for being an Olympic champion, Begg-Smith was forced to fend off questions at his post-victory celebration about the nature of the internet business that has funded his Olympic campaign.

Born and bred in Canada but now calling Australia home, Begg-Smith's two main companies, AdsCPM and CPM Media, manage and track the success of ads placed on the internet through spyware and adware-style technology.

They have also been linked to pop-up and pop-under advertising - the type that causes so much frustration for internet users.

While he was still basking in the glory of his medal win yesterday, he was questioned by US journalists whether he had made his money from annoying "spam advertising".

"I make technology for companies to monitor their online ads," Begg-Smith said.P> "I don't do ad-pops. I make software so companies can do whatever they want.

Advertisement:
"But I don't know what we are doing talking about my business when I've just won Olympic gold.
"The company is nowhere near as big as everybody has made it out to be. It's not a big deal - I just did a bit of stuff to make enough money to get by."

Begg-Smith his brother, Jason, 25, have largely been off-limits to the media since a sex scandal involving Japanese mogul skiing gold medal winner Tae Satoya and Jason became front-page news in Japan last year.

The Begg-Smiths were angry with the scurrilous nature of the reporting of an incident in which Satoya, a sexy 28-year-old moguls skier, was physically removed from Club 911 in Tokyo's Roppongi entertainment district after a violent confrontation with the manager and a bouncer.

The club claimed she had been having sex with Jason in the VIP room - a claim they both strenuously denied.

Great Britain won a medal!!!!!!! :w00t:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/winter_sports/4721282.stm

Considering we don't even have a bobsleigh/skeleton track in the UK, and that she was funded by donations from her friends and neighbours, it's an incredible achievement.

Even though it's only a silver, for us this means it's now a pretty successful winter games
