half life2 installer problems

hey ppl
when I start the actual HL2-installation, the 'next' and 'close' buttons won't respond. This is NOT in the liscence agreement window, but the first one you get up in the actual installation of the game itself (i.e the one with the text 'Welcome to the Half Life(R)2 Installation wizard' and so on). Could anyone help?

Scroll the agreement text down to the bottom and then you will be able to click 'Next'.

by the way it is the collectors edition.do you need sp2?

As far as I know, you don't need SP2 for the collector's edition as I have played the game on WIN XP home with no SPs.

Maybe burning the image to a dvd, or if you're doing that mount it with daemon tools will make a difference.

I guess the file you downloaded won't work then...

When I first started searching for half-life 2 torrents, it didn't work for me either.

Stop wasting you're time trying to get hl2 torrents, as they simple don't work because of steam.

Just get this program, Cracksteam and I'm 95% sure it will work. In fact, I'm using it now. You can download all games relased through valve with cracksteam, and you can even play multiplayer games on non-vac secured servers.

That's simply not true. The torrent I downloaded recently for HL2 worked without having to connect to Steam. To me, ishjyot's problem sounds like another program causing the problem. I'd suggest trying out this copy on another machine before you start installing other programs (that might cause more problems).

I had this issue as well. I asked on the Steam forums and they said it was an issue with all copies, including legal. Can't quite remember what fixed it. I think you have to install Counter Strike or you have to not install Counter Striker. One of the two.

well.............have tried on 2 computers and it works jusfine
except mine.the same problem still persists.:(cant seem to install it.the next and cancel buttons remain frozen.have fromatted my windows 2 times.:))

Try changing your install settings and re-read my post. I think you have to install CS:S with it, either that or you don't :shifty:
