The rig I'm trying to install the PCI adapter is in my sig.

I have a linksys 802.11b/g router

I have another laptop wirelessly connected to the router and it works fine

the problem:

On the instruction manual, it tells me to plug in the PCI adapter, and the next time windows XP boots the new found hardware wizard will pop up and I could install the drivers from the CD.

But when I plugged the damn PCI adapter (Linksys 802.11g adapter) into a PCI slot and rebooted, the add new hardware wizard doesn't pop up, so I manually start it but it does not find the PCI adapter that's plugged into one of my 3 PCI slots.

At first I thought maybe I didn't plug it in completely, so I made sure of that and tried it with all 3 PCI slots, but windows still doesn't recognize the adapter?

What could be the problem other than the fact that the PCI adapter could potentially be defective?:(

EDIT: :O I certainly hope my mobo's not defective now? :frusty:

Does it show up in the Device Manager?

No, that's why I'm beginning to think it's either a defective card or mobo:O

That sucks. Return it for a new adapter, I'm sure they have some sort of warranty on it. Or call linsys tech support. It cant be your mobo. IT's almost new you've only had it for a few months.
